I have a 2004 Lexus GS 300. I need to remove the transmission. What is the minimum height the car needs to be raised to (in inches) so that the transmission can be slid out from the side on a jack?
For reference my jack stands rise to a maximum height of 15.4 inches, and the transmission jack is at 8 inches when fully lowered. Will these be enough?
It has dimensions doesn't it? You cant extrapolate the additional height of a transmission jack or whatever means you plan on using to drop it?
If you are looking for someone to tell you that the bottom of the car needs to have this much clearance from the floor so you can bring it down safely doesn't exhist because no one knows what you are using to secure and lower the transmission with.
You haven't gotten any other answer because of that. So, use the dimensions of the transmission and tool height added together would be my only answer. Good luck. Stay safe. Not worth getting injured over no matter what you use.
I literally specified in my original post what I was using to lower the transmission, a transmission jack and also its dimensions. And to your other point, no the PDF does not have any useful information (for me in this scenario) which is what I politely said in my reply to the first post.
If you don’t have the answer, that’s totally fine. I can muddle along on my own, but I believe in doing the easy thing first and simply asking if anyone has this info. If someone does, it helps me and also anyone else who might need this info.

Theres another more generic video that states the bottom should be 20-24". Don't know if that applies to your situation. Just trying to help. The title is "How to Replace a Transmission (Full DIY Guide) by ChrisFix.
