Default intake sounds clips + pics

Okay folks here are the pics of my intake and the heat shield that I made for it. Please don't make fun of the heat shield too much as it is temporary and only bare aluminum, it will be much better.

The sounds clips are of 4 different trials that I did with a combination of pwr and od on and off and with windows opened and closed. The microphone was placed on the driver side headrest when the clips were recorded. The clips are in .wav format.

Trial 1 - Windows all closed, overdrive on, pwr mode on. I took it up to about 60 mph this trial.

Trial 2 - Windows all closed, overdrive off, pwr off. Took that one up to about 60 mph also.

Trial 3 - Back windows open, front ones closed. Pwr on, overdrive off, took this one to about 60 mph.

Trial 4 - Back windows open, front ones closed. Pwr off, overdrive on, took this one to about 50 mph.

All these trials were performed with me flooring it, during regular driving the intake is barely noticable. The intake is a generic one bought from ebay and is for a 1993 honda civic. The intake pipe had to be shorted a little to fit, and I fabbed up (with a little welding) an adapter for the maf since it is kinda rectangular on the inlet end. Let me know what you guys think of it, sounds like a got a turbo with that wistling sound huh? lol BTW do your lexs make that whistling sound too?

The pics and the sound clips can be found at the address below:

Nice heat shield. I may want to do that along with my injen heat shield.

What do you think?

Or should I just forget about using the Injen?

To think about it, why wouild injen give you an inferior heat shield?

Thanks

I like the sound clips! I have a feeling the whistling noise is from the heat shield. Do you have the dimensions of the heatshield?

I may decide to make one that looks like a box. hehe

I think you should just ditch the injen shield cause the fan really blows air at the filter and the air just goes around the shield or heats it up since its aluminum. The idea shield would be plastic and block the whole section off so no hot air gets in.

It sounds almost like the whistle from a turbo.

And no, my car does not whistle. Do you have a hose that's not connected or are there any crackes in the tubing? Maybe that's where the whistle is comming from.

nope no cracks or loose tubes, maybe cause i have that secondary throttle mod? it only happens at WOT

BTW how does everyone like the clips. As in the sound of the intake? I like the sound because its deep and not overpowering. Any ideas if an exhaust would make things sound perfect, and any performance increase from an exhaust, i've heard that there isn't any.

I did that same mod too, but my car does not whistle.

Don't know what else could cause it

well if its not damaging the engine or causing a loss in performance I don't really care, but I wish i could figure out what was causing the sound.

i dont know about having a "part" shield around the intake.......dont really make any difference unless
you cover the whole "filter cone" with it. if not, it wud be still sucking hot air from engine bay.

True to some extent but remember when you are going fast the cooler air is comming in at the front of the car and pushing the hot air back. It works well I know that once i hit like 35 or so there is a difference with a cone.

Why would Injen give you a crappy heat shield if it wasn't going to work? ANyways, I'm going to make my heat shield soon. Celsior Master, I'm going to see you next week. hehe
