Default 1995 GS 300 no power when accelerating- smoke coming up from behind throttle body?

I have a 95' gs300 and whenever I accelerate all the way theres absolutely no power to it, it starts up and drives but it idles a bit rough and also after having it on and driving for a hot minute, it starts having this really burnt smell to it. i took a look at the motor while it was still running to see where it was smelling from and there was a small amount of smoke or steam coming up from behind the throttle body. i tried looking up to see if anyone else has had this issue and didnt have any luck so hopefully someone can help me on here. id honeslty hate to call it a loss, its hard to come across a decent first gen that isnt wrecked or completely molested by someone.

It sounds like your catalytic converters are clogged. I say that because of the lack of power at full throttle and the smell after driving for a while. When the cats are clogged it causes an air flow restriction and the longer you drive with the restriction the hotter they will get which will cause the burning smell. Next time you drive it and you get the burning smell take a look at the exhaust manifold where the cats are and it they are glowing red hot then you will know for sure.

That sounds about right, I'll definitely be checking for that tomorrow. If that's the case, are they easy to replace? I just got this car and I'm still learning everything about it.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say its about a 5 to replace the cats. But if the nuts and studs are rusty and break while removing then it can turn into a headache. I just got rid of the exhaust manifold / cats and installed headers.

Really? I was looking into doing the exhaust after it runs right. Do you have any recommendations?
