There are lots of guys on this board with some REALLY NICE cars and modifications. I think it would be interesting to note what we all do, professionally to be able to afford our dream boats. Perhaps we can place our job title, and the company we work for.
I saw a thread like this on a different board, and it was very interesting.
I will lead by example, I am a corporate manager for RJRT, which is a tobacco company. I have been in this posistion for 9 months and with the company for 3yrs. I'm 24 yrs old.
I just graduated from The Florida State University, and plan to start law school in August. Right now I am a server at Red Lobster, and I always seem to be broke.
Well, I used to be a Financial Analyst for a Manufacturing Co. in Fairfield and work in a bank as an IT support. But as of right now, I am a jobless bum. I got fed up with my boss in Fairfield and got tired of the bank thing (not enough money for the responsibilities and stuff that you have to put up with). So I'm just chillin' now and looking for a nice satisfying job. I'm about to be 23 and I just graduated from a University with my B.A. in International Business and a B.A. in Computer Science.
I'll tell you boy, to be jobless, some of you guys are sure riding in style!!! Just to think when I was a sophmore in college, i had a 95 Accord with 18s and I thought I was the MAN!!!! LOL
Well, guys. This may make you roll your eyes, but I am 50 years old, father of 4 children... yes I know I am old enough to be your dad. I have worked 30 years at Consumers Energy in Michigan, which is the states largest electric and gas utility company. I am the Civic Improvement Coordinator for Southwest Michigan. A fancy title for someone who gets involved, as much as they will let me, with the design of road improvement projects for state and county roads, and for city streets. My job is to see if their road improvement design calls for the relocation of our underground gas pipes, or, relocation of our power lines. If their plans involve relocation, I try to work with these engineers to see if they can modify their plans to allow our gas and electric to stay where it is. Any relocations come out of the utility's pocket, and ultimately, our customer's pockets.
But...... just as the body style of the 1st gen Lexus in timeless, try to think of me as just as timeless and just as excited about the awesomeness of this car.
Marcus, its good to see your still a car FREAK like the rest of us! I'm glad to know that when I a little more "vintage", I will still be reading magazines, surfin the net, and babbling endlessly about cars! Its funny, but in all seriousness, I only need about 4 things to be PERFECTLY HAPPY,
1. My immediate and extended family/friends
2. My Girlfriend, and her daughter
3. A source of a decent income
4. A modified automobile
If I plot out the course of my life, and the things that I enjoy the most, they always involve those four things in some fashion!! Guess I'm a simple guy!
It sounds like I am accepted by the "bretheren". I am never gonna get old or "think" old! I am still an 18 year-old in an adult body. My kids tell me sometimes to "grow up"
I am also very involved in computer repair and tweaking, and I love combat pc games, like Ghost Recon and Wolfenstein. There... it's out in the open... I feel better.
I went from a '72 Cutlass (when I was 16) to a '93 Acura Vigor and now I got the GS which I plan on keeping for a long time.
I work as an office manager for a film company which is really exciting. I graduated in 2001 and I'm hoping to make a career in film so I'm in a good position to learn a lot about the business.
as for me, i work in shipping company for nearly 10yrs now. wow!!
to be exact, i just work as a clerk, on export documentation. yeah, we ship almost anything and i wish
i can find an agent in japan so we can ship some of the parts that we dont have here in the US. now, that will be something else.......aint it? ha.ha.haa....
i used to drive a 4-runner, had fun with it and got rid of it for my 96 gs300. love the car and planning to keep for good since i had spent so much to make it look like now. h'ever, dont hate me for saying this, im planning to get a 95-96 nissan 240sx and just use it for work. i have 120,000 miles on my gs and i intend not to put anymore miles to it. maybe, ill end up fixing up that 240 with sr20det...........you think?
I am a technical writer for a software company that is thankfully chugging along thru the soft economy. I am 32 and so far, it looks like I'm the second oldest with a first gen. The GS is the second car that I have owned. My first is a 1985 AE86 Corolla GT-S (hachiroku), which I bought back in 1994 before Initial-D was part of the US AE86 scene. I still have the car.
Indypwr, no hate for buying a 240. Those are cool cars and a lot of the guys who want a 1985-1987 Corolla GT-S for drifting are buying 240s because they are more readily available. Also, there is a better chance of finding a 240 in good condition. Many of the AE86s still around are either rust buckets or have left paint on a few too many guardrails while in the hands of inexperienced, would-be drifters. A 240 with an SR20DET would be a monster!
