Default Dubz all over again.

What's up my first Gen. Family?
Sorry about not posting so much lately.
Been busy. Anyways, in the spirit of preparation
for the next summer, I'm thinking about getting
another pair of shoes for my baby. I'm really loving
the Lowenharts. There are two types of Lowenharts
that I like, BR5 and LD1. The problem is that BR5 only
come in 20', so my question to you guys is this:
Does anyone have 20' dubz on their ride, and if yes,
are there any rubbing or any problems with alignment
and the ride quality? Thanks a lot, guys.

Also, Mischief, rims that you've got on your car.
Are those Lowenharts "LD1" or are they ACE "Lux"?
And also are they silver or chrome? I can't really tell
from the signature of yours.

Holla at your boy.
Regards.

WHATS UP ROVER!!
I JUST PURCHASED A PAIR OF 20' FOR MY 1ST GEN AND
THE RESEARCH I GATHERED LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT
THEIR SOULD BE NO PROBLEMS FOR YOU. MINE ARE STILL IN THE MAIL SO I WILL HAVE TO SEE. I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF DUBS ON OUR CAR AND I HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CALL A WHEEL SHOP TO BE FOR CERTAIN.
GOOD LUCK MAN, TELL ME WHAT YOU DISCOVER.

Assuming that you did your homework on the offset, width and tire sizing, you'll have no problem with 20s.

I run 19X8.5 (245/35) in front and 19X9.5 (275/35) in the rear and have no problems.

the rims i have are called Vienna by Diablo. yes yes...i know they are LD-1 knockoffs, and i know how all of CL hates knockoffs, but i actually bought the rims before i became a member, which qualifies me for "lack of knowledge and enlightenment."

there are a wealth of LD-1 knockoffs nowadays and some look better than others. i admit, that i should have waited and bought the real things, but what can i say, i'm very impatient . as for my rims, they are 20" x 8.5" with Nitto 245/35/20. with the 20" rims, they actually rub a little when i turn all the way right or left...in reverse. weird. it doesnt rub when i go forward, only in reverse. my car is dropped with the eibach/kyb setup, so i figure if you're going lower, you'll have more problems. i also found out the hard way that the kit i have isn't made for 20" rims. but, its a minor problem, and there are ways around it . btw, the rims are chrome.

i have dubs on my ride with 255/35/20 tires. the car does rub on turns, but not on the fender lip. it rubs on the inside fender plastic, the one closest to the front. then again my car is alos lowered on intrax. i also no nothing about offset or anything else. anyone got a solution for this?

it's all a matter of preference Rover......for me 35 size tire is too skinny.....i need at least 45 so i have 18's max on my cars.... cause of potholes and city driving....but if you don't have those problems i'm sure 20's can do the trick.....i have a friend that has 24's on his truck and he blew a tire the other day cause of a pothole......$1000 just for a new tire..... ......you have to look at both sides of the issue.....what can you afford in the long run?

Hey Alex...

I'm not disagreeing with you, but an 18X7 Rim accepts a 205mm or 215mm wide tire. Take the 215/45 and the tire has a side wall of 96.75mm.

Now take one of my wheels 275/35R19 and the tire has a side wall of 96.25mm.

However, that doesn't mean that I can just floor it over RR tracks, I just wanted to make an observation. And you are 100% correct that you must be willing to pay the consequences of a screwed up tire. Most places aren't going to give you much of a warranty on 19"-24" (if any).

Default Dubz.

All right, guys, let me go a little bit more in depth on this subject.
I have two controversial issues at hand. One, I want my car to look off the hook. Two, I don't want to loose the luxurios ride of a Lexus, by putting on something huge or lowering the car too much. I agree the handling will be great, but if I wanted a BMW I would have bought a freakin' 5 series instead of a Lexus.
Now I talked to some people with 20+ on, some say, "oh, the ride did not change that much, and I love the look". While others point out, "man, it rides like a freakin' train, I can feel every bump on the road and I still love the look, but overall I wish I had 18s." Then people with the 18s say exactly the opposite, "oh, I wish I would have gone with 20s, since the 18s are still too small for this car, I hate it". So I would think that 19s would be a great solution, some sort of a compomise to this, but no same *****.

I know I'm gonna be loosing some power regardlessly. I just don't want to loose too much of a ride quality, but I do want those beautiful chrome blades on my car.

Please, guys, in the name of Lexus, please help me make my mind on the size of the wheel and maybe even on the brand.
Right now I'm looking at Lowenhart's LD1s and BR5, and also ACE's Lux.

Thank you.
And sorry for being such an indecisive Lexus owner.

Yo Mischief,
Is that the Titan kit on your car??? If it is high five! Or what kit is that and what particular problem did you have with the 20's and the bodykit?

Thanks Mon!

Yo Rover,
Man I feel your pain too...looks vs. ride that's a tough call. I guess the rule should be the car is meant to be driven and driven comfortably. I'm in the same situation and was really hooked on getting 20's but have now firmed my decision to move from 18's to 19's. I just want to find a JDM wheel that looks like a 20 and with the fat lip @ least 10" wide for the rear. Good luck and keep us posted.

Default Dubz.

Yeah, it definately has to have the lip.
No question about it. Good luck with your
wheels too, brother. If you get some before
me, put some pictures up, you know. This
freakin' wheel quest is driving me nuts. That's
all I can think about. I'm obsessed with my car,
just like each and everyone of you.
Man, I love you guys. LOL
But not in that way. LOL
Holla.

I understand as well. I actually went with the 19s for a couple reasons.

1. Like you said I hoped it would be a compromise
2. Not many people run 19s

Still, the handling has improved and the ride is rougher, period. I don't care what people say. You can't gain in one category without losing in another. Still in my opinion, the benefits of my 19s in performance and looks far exceed the inconvenience of a rougher ride.

T

PS...although, everytime I go over these stupid RR tracks near my office, I wish for 16s and no body kit!!

19's would look perfect on a JZS147 GS...

ACE and Diablo's do not belong on Lexus cars...they belong on Hondas...beaten, salvage titled Hondas...

I would look Work, Weds, SSR, etc...depends on what you want to spend...check out the Weds Kranze Cerberus II's in the Wheels Forum....
