Hi guys.... I am stuck and need a little help. I got 93K mile GE engine and then replaced all the seals, water pump, timing belt etc. I got the new engine in the car. No radiator or anything in yet. But I have put new plugs, wires, distrubutor cap and o-ring in. I am trying to at least get the engine to attempt to turn over. It not working. I have put gas in the car, oil in the engine. Checked my grounds etc. But no turn. I am only getting 6volts via the starter signal wire. I would assume that it would be 12volts. what are some of the things I should check?
So a distributor on a GTE motor? My bet is that you don't have a good enough ground to start your GE motor. Use a jumper cable from battery to chassis and battery to motor.

Sorry about the GTE part.. mistake.... I meant to say GE
None of the above seem to be resolving the issue. The starter will not even turn. When I check the connector for voltage all I get is 6volts. When I check the cable from the batter I get 12+...
Well, you could try to feed 12v directly to the starter with the key turned. You will need to hit both the main cable in as well as the small prong above that. If that works you have a problem with your key on ignition.

Hi Kaiser, I have 12v from battery to starter but I only have 6volts at the plug. I applied direct 12volts to the small prong on the starter and the starter turned. Does the same apply that I have a problem with my key on ignition?
always ends up being a ground somewhere (for me at least)
I am aware of the following grounds. Please let me know if I missed one.
1. Ground from battery to the block
2. Ground on back of firewall, to the heads (on passenger side
3. Ground strap from the body of the car to the transmission
