Cool Starter

ok, I think my starter selanoid has gone out, all i get is a click when i try to start it, I have plenty of battery power. So my question is, what other cars has the same starter? if i ask the auto parts for a diffrent car will the starter be cheaper? I called Auto Zone they told me $127.99 with a $52.00 core charge.

You have a few options. You can rebuild it with a new brush kit you can buy from Toyota, or I have one in my garage on a shelf.

Before you do any of those things, I would make sure that there is indeed power getting to the starter. First I would run a ground jumper cable from the battery directly to the starter chassis. It could be as simple as a ground.
Next, there a 10mm nut that holds down the main power that comes from the battery, the other is a relay wire. A multi meter read while cranking that point should tell you. Or, if you jumper power direct from a battery to both those points with the key on in the car, it should start if it's wiring. As always, be careful when using 12v that you don't short anything out.

It would just suck to take it off the car to find it was a bad connection. It happened to me on my Lincoln LS. Turned out to be a ground. I still have the extra LS starter in my garage and the car is lonnng gone.

Yea, what Kaiser said, just jack up the car first and make sure there are is no corrosion on the connectors. If there is no corrosion just get a rebuild starter, cause it's too much effort to put it back together yourself in my opinion.
