Warming up...
I have to "warm up" daily. I prefer to warm up in the summer too...but, how can I limit this warm up process to cold weather conditions only. My mechanic says it's because the car is "old". (he's a hater!)
I disgaree with him , as I have seen older cars start up and go while I'm still warming up. Do I need to have someting tweeked? I get reg oil changes and check ups...
If I take off without giving the engine 3-5 minutes, it runs really slow or jerks really hard once you shift from P to D or R. I hope this isnt the beginning of a transmission prob...I feel like I'm done for If I had to make a get away after a cold start!

Warming up for few minutes or until you temp dial meets the first mark is good just be easy on the gas until your car is fully warmed up. If you look at many cars that don't warm up they usually have a rear main or front crank seal leaking problem after time. The only down side about warming up too long is you will pre maturly wear your cams and thats not good but other than that its cool.

I also need to let mine warm up (3-4 mins) in cold weather and experience the same issues as you describe. Mine will start off with an idle just shy of 2,000rpm and then settle down to just over 1,000rpm after a couple of minutes. When fully warmed it idles just under 1,000rpm. In addition, my shift from 1st to 2nd "jumps" quickly when it's not fully warmed. it shifts very smoothly after the car has been running a while however.

Not to thread jack or anything but does anyone experience this...when you put the key in the ignition and turn it to turn all accessories on but not the engine, you hear a very quick 1-2 second clicking sound, like flipping a deck of cards slowly and then it fades. You can faintly hear it right after the car turns on.

If I'm correctly thinking of what you're describing could it be the auto climate control system cycling?
Same here...
