Default Major issue. Stumped.

Okay, so a while back my car started acting like it was missfiring a **** ton and I decided it was time for new plugs/wires anyways so I go buy some plugs and wires and decide to do cap and rotor aswell. I complete all this work and find out it still wont idle worth ****, but now the car dies after 15 - 25 seconds and wont let me restart it unless I sit and wait for 1 - 3 minutes.

SOOOO, my buddy that works for Lexus says there is a possibility my fuel pump is going out and low fuel pressure could cause it to run ****ty. Well, he has a gs430 fuel pump laying around and gave it to me and I swaped it out today and started her up and she still gave me problems.

Tomorrow I am going to try to use starting fluid to see if I can keep her running on that to eliminate either fuel or spark as being the issue. I am just curious what everyone else thinks.... One other thing I need to check is the fuel filter which I need to look up the location of, but other than that, I am stumped....

Thanks for any ideas or help!!

Have you checked your timing? The distributor isn't loose is it? Is your O2 sensor still cycling mv? Try unplugging your maf and see if it runs better on the factory map.

When I first got my car earlier this year it had a similar problem where the idle was terrible and I performed the same tune up: plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. The other thing I did was clean out the throttle body that was caked with a layer of carbon build-up. I still think the car idles a little high but still a vast improvement over what it was before.

Thanks for the replys....

1) Fuel filter might be cloged, I just went to replace it and I need to think of a better way to stop the fuel flow before I change it.

2)Clogged injectors could cause bad idle, but what about it dieing and not starting back up again for a length of time.

3)Timing should be fine, I do not understand what could of happened there if it went bad... Maybe tensioner went loose? Dunno have not checked belt yet. Dist. is tightly in place. O2 seems fine and there are no codes..... I tried unplugging the maf and it just died out.......

4)Did not look like really any carbon buildup when I looked. Dunno....

Not sure about the Lexus models, but on my DSM the ISC (Idle Speed Control) motor goes bad often. I have an SC300 and I think the ISCM is right up front. Try this - its quick and cheap to fix if this is the problem.

I will take a look at it, but will it cause the problem all the way through the rpm range? I would not think so but I never know.

Clean out your throttle body, maybe that could do it.

With the newer evap emission systems as we have in a Lexus, before you open a fuel line to replace the filter insure you loosen or remove the fuel cap to equalize any pressure built up in the tank or charcoal filter.

Flag the filler door to remind you to reinstall the cap when you finish.

it might be flooding? Maybe an injector or two is leaking? That would explain why it won't start for a while after it stalls?

Might sound dumb, but check to see if you have the ignition wires crossed..........
