Nope. the break lights drain lots of lower. we have 8 dual filament bulbs going on at the same time and the rear deck LED break lights. I had the exact same problem right before the alternator died on me. Everytime i stepped on the breaks my rpm needle and speedometer needle all the lights inside would cut off. and my engine would die if i held on any longer. but as soon as i let go it was fine..... I had to drive the last mile home using the emergency break that way the engine wouldn't die.

Sorry J, I should have quoted... my response was in reply to Xeeeee***s post / question.

One thing on the older 1UZ design that I'm not sure is an issue here as well, but the position of the alternator is under an area that sometimes gets a minor leak above it (power steering) that goes into the alternator causing issue.

My alternator is doing the same thing. If I hit the brakes with the A/C fan on, it slows it almost to a stop until I release the brake. It picks back up almost immediatly after releasing it. If I'm sitting at a light for too long the A/C will disenagage the stator and hot air starts to blow. Not good when it's 112 outside.

Makes sense...I'm pretty sure a good portion of my oil leaked thru the O ring right above the alternator and leaked RIGHT in there.

Umm.... the waterpump is above your alternator on the 2JZ. It' below the PS on the 1UZ.

so was mine. hahaha. You suggested that it was his brake lights. I agree to a certain point. It is his brake lights draining all the power. but more importantly its the alternator not providing enough juice...

It arrived yesterday but I'm attaching it to the engine on the stand. The swap should take place in two weeks if everything goes well. I only have Saturdays to work on it.

No lights for me yet! Does the light mean your alternator is dead or just low voltage?

The light means the alternator is not charging. It grounds through the voltage regulator when the alternator is not charging.

Yeah, I never got a light either...My first symptoms were usually the bass cutting out, followed by dimming of all the electronics.
