Default Metallic Chatter upon throttle

I noticed my car has this metallic type chatter noise that occurs when I accelerate. At first I thought maybe it is something resonating like a heat sheild. But when I took a look at it, it sounds like it is coming from within the motor.

I thought maybe valves, but the noise is not constant ticking...only when I hit the gas. I put some lifter/valve quieter stuff in, but the noise is still there. My oil has been changed recently with 5w30 and Fram filter. My car has 150k miles on it.

Recently the car was having a idle problem(still kinda does), I had to advance my timing so that the car would not shake whenever I'm at stop lights. Could the rattle have anything to do with this? Honestly I cannot say how long this chatter/rattle has been around because I can really only hear it when outside the car and when I have windows rolled down(and just recently the weather got nice enough to roll down windows).

The metal sound is engine knock caused by the timing being too far advanced. Bring the timing back to normal and try to figure out the idle problem.

Yeah I'm afriad that is what it was.

I was adjusting the timing earlier with a timing light, when I bring it to 10degrees it seems like the car just wants to die. I am thinking my timing belt jumped, although the teeth on it look fine.

As far as the idle problem goes, I have changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, and intake. Basically a full tune up and the car just shakes and misfires. Advancing the timing made the car run somewhat like it should, still shakes but very minimal.

Try cleaning out your throttle body, the carbon buildup on the throttle plate will ruin the idle. Maybe you throttle position sensor is bad, this thread has instructions on how to check it:https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=108677. Have you checked your mass-airflow-sensor? Maybe that could have oil on it from an aftermarket air filter. Clean it with brake cleaner.

Timing is back to stock 10 degrees.

I checked the TPS and it did not seem to have the same specs stated in the other thread, so I tried adjusting it and it made no difference in idle no matter how much i turned it.

MAF is OK, and cleaned.

Car still idles a bit rough as if misfiring and hesitates to accelerate.

Looks like your TPS is bad. Get the part number from Lexus and then buy the part from a Toyota dealer. I bought mine for $20, Lexus was charging A LOT more.
