Serious Electrical Problems, 95 Gs300
Hey people, what's up? I recently got a used 95 GS300 with 110k miles and when my car is off, there is 1.8 amps being pulled from my battery, which pretty much kills my battery in a day, if i don't drive it. I took it in, the guy at the shop said that he needs some kind of radio call signal to get into the wiring system and figure out whats wrong, which would cost oodles. So I took it over to my uncle, who knows A LOT about cars and we were using the lexus manual to find the fuses, he pulled the dome fuse, that uses 10 amps max, and the voltmeter we were using went straight back down to 0 amps in use. The car still runs without that fuse, but some things don't work, tilt on steering wheel, radio, clock, power locks. Oddly enough, according to the manual, that fuse powers my sun/moon roof, but it works 100%. I don't really know what to do, or how to diagnose where the short circuit is, if there is one. Should I take it in? Or can i do something else, anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

I would try disconnectiong the amp in the trunk near the spare tire. Radio won't work but maybe water got back there and there is a mild short. That is a total guess. Does your power antenna work? Maybe it is trying in vain to operate and drawing current.
My power antenna does not work at all, doesn't move. As for my amp, i yanked the 3 colored cords in the back side of my amp, which didn't change anything. Anyway, 2 of speakers work out of 6, the ones up by the driver, so i think my amp is prob blown or wasted due to water damage.....
Well as you know from the wiring diagram, the dome fuse can be traced to the blue-yellow wire leading into the factory headunit as one of its many power sources - I don't know if it is then passed on elsewhere such as the amp or power antenna. Unplugging the headunit harness with this wire tell you if the stereo is what is drawing the current.
I would try disconnectiong the antenna and antenna relay (everything you find behind the left trunk panel), too.
Sorry you are having so many problems. You need to check on rubber hoses that run from the sunroof to drain water; they must be clogged. I do not have the sunroof so I'm not quite sure where to find them but I think they run to the trunk where they are supposed to drain safely to the street.
I have an aftermarket amp and I am going to see if it can be used in place of the factory one. If I am successful I think that will help you and others with your problem who don't want to have to replace everything.

Wow amazing, i took out the trunk lining and look what I found around my antenna!! a bunch of cut and retaped wires with electrical tape and this weird box that has a light on it, though the actually antenna part of it is one piece, the power to the antenna has been redone, DOESN'T WORK. I contacted the seller, he said he replaced it like a year ago, he also said that he never had any electrical problems like im having, the only thing i have have done to the car since i got it was my drivers side mirror that i had to replace since it was cracked. Ever since then, i have had these serious electrical problems, but why would the dome fuse have to do anything with the mirrors???? I think im gonna have the shop who fixed it look at what they did. I only had the car like a day before I had it fixed, so I dunno if the seller is telling the truth about my electrical issues, though he seems like a nice guy. Could the replacement mirror really cause some short circuit on my dome fuse??? strange..... (You are looking at the wires around my antenna)

how would I fix this? I don't know where the power plug is for my antenna, is it that white part you see in the pic that currently isn't plugged in anywhere, or is that big white piece of plastic up by the antenna. I don't really want to cut those wires in the pic if i can, or is that my only way out? Would I have to use those wires if I wanted to replace the power antenna with a standstill antenna that doesn't move? Thanks

He got cheap and replaced the lexus antenna with a generic one. That deal with the red light is a low voltage trigger and it is what you need for aftermarket antennas. If you remove all of that crap and buy a real lexus antenna it might be easier to see where everything goes. Plus I think you said you have the service manuals so they will tell you what color wires go to the antenna. Two go into the antenna motor itself and like five go into the antenna motor relay.
That mirror thing probably has nothing to do with it.
