I would expect them to implement refreshes clumped together, or better yet conform to the industry norm of respecting model years. They literally just released the refreshed Model S and Plaid, why didnt they debut these new lamp modules as a part of that refresh?

It shows a lack of respect for their buyers IMO

Again, this is how Tesla operates. It's definitely annoying for anyone that just bought one, but it's expected with them.

Tesla has never "shown respect" to anyone so far. They "definitely don't conform to any industry norm".

I'm willing to bet that in less than 1.5 years from now it will get another refresh ( new chassis that is one single cast - the megacast chassis with the new 4680 structural battery).

Buyer beware. If you look at the reverse, the car has gotten better with time through software updates. Tesla doesn't have to give that to you for free but it does. Mine didn't come with Sentry mode, dashcam, surveillance through app, or blindspot but eventually, these were brought upon by software updates. I even got a significant increase in horsepower...for free. Also, Tesla takes things away like passenger lumbar, radar based cruise control, and changes price on a quarterly basis (both up and down).

They've done this for years and all part of the "experience."

The lighting upgrade can't be updated over the air?

just not how they roll... they're a fast moving disrupter, "boldly going"... many won't care for that.
no company can please everyone, some for moving too slow, some too fast, etc.

exactly right, with the rough you get the smooth... might miss an upgrade, but get lots of other upgrades you didn't even know about when you bought the vehicle.

No, both are hardware upgrades.

The Tesla methodology is to keep improving their cars, not to roll the year before changes. Our 2018 Mid Range keeps getting better via OTA updates. It really is fun to sorta get a new car...
I will likely buy a Model 3 Performance when the new batteries come out and the big molded rear chassis are incorporated. Until then, we will continue to enjoy our Model 3.

In other words follow the legacy auto way of doing things. I'd say if you want that then don't buy a Tesla.

One of the reasons I wouldn't buy a Tesla for sure. I am very close to buying an EV but it almost certainly won't be a Tesla.

Something is not "better" simply because its different. Elon wants to make something "different" more than he wants to make something "better".

I did see the pics but it was after I ordered my car. Typically the things you see leaked around that time are for the next MY when there is a refresh but Tesla isn’t typical. I’m not pissed but it is annoying and it is what it is.

the whole model year concept on tesla is pretty useless imho, it really doesn't mean anything. they do updates mid cycle whenever they are ready

doesn't really bother me. but i just treat this car as transportation so feeling can be different.

true. i was told a the same tesla you first drove will not be the same as the tesla you drive now, due to all the software updates they roll out. it evolves via OTA updates!

As an early adopter, I can tell you this is true. I am considering another Model 3 when the die cast rear frame is available. Unless Tesla can update that OTA as well... Ha!
