General EV Conversation
Maybe they are waiting for Lucid's Saudi money to dry up so they can scoop it up. Apple getting into EV'S just doesn't sound appealing to me. It's one thing selling an iPhone for $1000, another selling a car for $100k. And the billions you would need to invest in factories and service centers. Doesn't sound like a good idea
I'm not saying Apple can't do it, but I just don't see it
Rumor has it Project Titan is all about the underlying OS, infotainment and self driving etc. In other words, someone else would build the car, but it would run entirely on Apple's tech stack.
The greatly expanded multi-screen and much more integrated CarPlay set for release this year is probably something of a preview.

It is a very long road ahead though. Today you have bunch of companies using Android Auto for their infotainment and instrumentation, and Apple is nowhere around.
My BS meter is going off like crazy. Lol
What I mean by that is do we know where this money/losses is going?
Is it being pumped into real estate assets or some kind of tangible asset?
Can't be a loss that big per car for labor.
Just thinking there has to be more to the story, it makes no sense.
Something shady is going on. IMO

Model Y competitor apparently

Peter Rawlinson doesn't have any incentive to make Lucid profitable he gets $379M/year in compensation regardless.

Has to be more to the story, maybe it will come out eventually.
It's pretty clear in my mind. Large pockets funding vanity projects (trying to up the Plaid with the Saphire), the CEO and others being highly compensated. The goal in the beginning was probably to build a legit luxury EV company, but now it looks like they are placing themselves in a position to either be acquired, or to build motors for other automakers. There is no doubt that their motors are excellent. Most issues I've heard that Lucid suffers from are software related
You can have a ton of cash in the bank, but if you don't have experience and know how, then all you are doing is burning that cash. Lucid is well funded, but they registered $430,000 loss per car sold, and it's not like they don't have experienced people. This is a tough market, so far only Tesla has been able to profit after a long haul, every company from Mercedes to Ford are losing money on EV's.

But it would be the Apple Silicon and imaging technology will enable proper self driving.
