Newbie nav questions
These questions are about the factory navigation, not Apple CarPlay.
1) Is there a way to adjust the map so that I can see an area other than the one that has my current location at the center? This was easy to do with my old car. Sometimes I want to see where I'm going rather than where I am.
2) Is there a way to toggle the nav voice on and off while it's working?

Hi new friend
- of course it is possible - point to the center of the screen and drag to location You want to see, You can also zoom in or out the view meantime
- you can switch off the nav voice in the nav options or during the speech you can decrease the volume to minimum - zero

•I've tried to drag the image without success. I've tried on both the screen and the touchpad. What's the maneuver? One finger? Two fingers (which is what I've mostly tried)? Zooming out isn't really helpful, because it doesn't allow me to see any street detail.
•I don't want to simply turn down the volume because I don't want to also interrupt the music that's playing. Is that nav option easily accessible? Again, in my old car, there was a one-button cheat that shut down the nav voice incidentally simply by blacking out the screen, and I became spoiled for its convenience.
Thanks!
Thanks for your reply, gm. Sorry I was sloppy in phrasing my questions. To be clearer:

Download the free VLC player (https://www.videolan.org) which runs great on both Macs and Windows and you will be able to play the .wmv file (and virtually any other media type) without any problems.
As for the nav screen itself, I had already tried without success to use the exact same couple of finger maneuvers shown in the video, the two-finger pinch and the one-finger drag, but I'll try them again. The drag in particular is key to what I'm trying to accomplish, since of course one can simply tap the + and - buttons on the lower left of the screen to zoom in or out.
As to why Switch doesn't work, the file in question is encoded with the wmv2 video and wma2 audio formats and according to the Switch Technical Specs support web page only the WMV and WMA [i.e., version 1] formats are supported.
In addition to the VLC player, if you want a more Mac OS style focused player, IINA - The modern media player for macOS is also available and it is also free. (Under the hood, it uses the same software CODEC libraries as the VLC player so both have the same format playback capabilities. The VLC app also has more capabilities [and associated complexities] beyond mere playback but most people won't use those capabilities.)
The Flip4Mac app used/uses the no longer supported or included in the Mac OS for quite sometime the QuickTime Components method of adding non-system supplied CODECs to support playback of audio and video files encoded in formats not directly supported by Apple's system software. All the variations of Windows media audio and video file formats fall into that category of not directly supported.

The funny thing is, just recently I installed and started regularly using IINA, but only to play audio-only MP3's because iTunes is such a relentless pain in the @ss (I run Mojave).
Now to hand this thread back to the 80% or whatever of posters who are using Windows and don't give a damn about any of this. :.D
