Show me your tinted ES!
Hey all! I'm looking to get my ES tinted soon but I'm struggling to pick a percentage. Can you guys post some side-profile shots of your cars and let me know what % you went with?Bonus points if you have a white ES!
Enforcement of window tinting laws/regulations varies by jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions don't bother with enforcing those laws unless you personally or your vehicle has become a maximally enforced subject of law enforcement. Other jurisdictions strictly enforce the local tinting laws if, for no other reason, for the revenue income.
The first question you need to answer is what are the local laws on restrictions (if any) for passenger vehicle window tinting? Many states have prohibitions on any front windshield tinting except for the top few inches (e.g., 4) or above the AS-1 line, and there is usually an allowed visible light transmission (VLT) (e.g., 70 percent) requirement on the tinting. For front side window tinting, some states (e.g., New Jersey) prohibit any tinting, while other states allow tinting but have VLT restrictions. For back and back side windows, heavier tinting is usually allowed, with some states going so far as allowing blackout-level tinting on those windows.

Maybe that you are not a resident of those other states your excused? But if you move to another state is a re-tint required?

As to moving to another state, you are required to comply with the laws in the state you are a legal resident of. That includes vehicle registration and vehicle compliance laws and regulations. You would need to check the new state you're registering the vehicle in to see if there's an exemption for a prior state-registered vehicle. I suspect few, if any, states would have an exemption for that sort of aftermarket modification for a reregistered in-state vehicle since that would create quite a few complications in compliance enforcement.
