ES500e Range
276 miles!
Now who wants to go on a cross-country trip having to start planning the next place to stop for a recharge?
Imagine being in West Texas, AZ, NM, Montana, or wherever. Every 200 miles you had better start planning your next stop.
Reminds me of the boat I had with twin big blocks.
Not much range. Where to refill was always the primary concern.

using your personal car for such a trip (in the event one does a trip like that) is dumb anyway. i'd rent a nissan or something.
making a car buying decision based solely or largely on the possibility you might need to use all your range at once on the off chance you go on a cross country trip is on the silly side. humans need breaks too and humans do take said breaks.
now i dont know how well the lexus charges or if it has nacs ports but generally speaking a well charging EV on the tesla network shouldn't have any issues doing trips... should you need to.
but again i'd rent a car. trips are harsh on cars inside and out.

Why would it be dumb? I trust my car that I maintain more than cars at rentals shops maintained by a 19 year old who makes minimum wage. Rental cars that get beaten and abused by people who rent them.
The car was invented to make life more convenient. Walking will get us to where we need to go but cars are more convenient for us. Before cars humans used horses. But horses couldn't go that far and needed to rest after a couple of miles. Gas cars allowed us to drive for hours and take 3 minutes to refuel and be on the road again. EVs take longer to recharge. I can fill up my gas tank to 100% and use up the fuel until I'm down to 5% gas and harm nothing in my car.

my car is "full" every morning when i wake up. aside from all the maintenance i didn't have to do.
and that's just 3 out of 48 things. just three...
in terms of renting for road trip vs taking your own personal car.. sure whatever you say. i dont know where you rent cars from but the rentals i've experienced are always new cars

The last time I did a trip like this was April 1993 and August 1994.
99% of my trips are under 50 miles return.
if talking convenience, evs wins that hands down. over the three years of owning my tesla, i did the math vs my es hybrid, i saved 21 hours of my life NOT going to the gas station.

Refueling for 3 minutes won't kill me. Gives me time to check tires and fluids... yeah, EVs use those too. 3 minute refueling during road trips vs 30 minutes to 5 hours... if you're unlucky LOL
Oil changes never bother me. 15 minutes and I'm done. Oil and filter is $30 delivered by Amazon. I enjoy tires that last longer. Tires are more expensive than oil changes. LOL
Not to mention EV insurance cost more than gas cars. Oh wait... what's this? Now you're going to tell us that somehow magically your EV costs $5 a month to insure while your hybrid costs $100. Sure thing Bub.

For a "new generation", "top of the line" Lexus ES/EV, a 276 mile range is not good.
As gasoline counterparts, in real-world, that range will be even lower due to driving style, acceleration, AC/Heating use, and hilly terrain. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable driving the vehicle down to empty or below a 10% charge, which effectively further reduces the usable range to ~250 miles.
For daily home charging and short trips, this isn’t really an issue. But for longer road trips, I have no interest in planning stops and dining around available charging stations. My 300h outperforms that range by a wide margin with a quick 10-12 gallon refill in under 5 minutes if needed.
Finally, there are a lot of alternatives on the market that are more affordable, better looking, and offer superior performance and EV range than this thing.

Wait until the Chinese cars get here... Some have close to 500 mile range fully charged. Most are in the 400 mile range. Why couldn't Lexus do this? Forget cross country trips. Hardly anyone does that anyway. Just running back and forth to work and doing errands around town makes one remember where the chargers are located and keep looking at the charge scale. Then there's waiting your turn at the charger to finish. And what if you live in an apartment building? No waking up with a "full" tank. No thanks, not for me...

That really sounds like great financial advise to spend a fortune on a new car but don't drive it on trips and rent a car instead. Few years ago Ford CEO took a trip with EV to find out what people were complaining about and admitted reality set in. Infrastructure and tech are getting better but not anywhere near there yet for me.
That's the answer right there IMO... No charger apprehension, no waiting, wave as you pass your local Chevron... Toyota should offer a gas model - with a V6 - and the 300h hybrid. Electric maybe later on and with a reasonable range per charge - not 276 miles...
