Question Another new ES350 UL owner with "Water or grease staining on pano sun shade".

Exact same issue as this previous thread a few years ago. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-7th-gen-2019-present/1010002-water-or-grease-staining-on-pano-sun-shade.html
Car is a brand new 2025 ES350 UL with the pano roof. I received the car on Saturday and just noticed the stain in the corner of the headliner shade panel. Same as the other poster. It's not wet and appears to be an oil like stain from something. No visible signs of water intrusion anywhere near the pano roof. Can this be cleaned away with Folex or should I let a dealership handle it. BTW the dealership that shipped the car to me is about 10 hours away out of state.

I think that they put too much grease which comes in contact with fabric and these stains appear.
Deep cleaning would fix he issue. I would not go with the replacement because it requires dropping of the headliner.

I would definitely let the dealership do it! First, it’s their responsibility, and secondly. but far more importantly ,the headliner is VERY expensive (at Bells good prices it’s almost $1,000 and labor would be very high) to replace and remove/install! If you mess it up in any way they will want to blame you wash their hands of covering it. You should expect a new vehicle to be delivered in pristine condition. It’s the responsibility of Lexus to make it right.

Any Lexus dealer would be able to fix this issue under warranty.

Thanks for the suggestions. The dealership is 10 hours and out of state. I texted the salesman and asked about it. I am probably going to have to get a local dealership to take care of it. Here is a picture of what I have.

I agree with @ATL350 is suggestion, let the dealer handle it. It should be an easy DIY fix, but if the attempt damages the headliner, they could use that as grounds to deny the warranty.
You can go to any nearby authorized Lexus dealer for warranty service. No need to drive all the way back to the one that sold it.
Good luck!

dealers have detailers on staff or on call and they'd probably try to extract that and if it's not done to your satisfaction hopefully replace it.

there's methods and procedures for that but if it's oil based, i dunno might be difficult.

Looks like water stain to me. Definitely closest dealer to correct as you might even make it worse. Put water on pano to see if leaking.

That's too big of a stain for grease. I agree with the other guy, looks like water. Get the dealers to fix it ASAP. Hit your car with water from a garden hose and see if it leaks. Often times leaks are from clogged drains or the drain piping has been severed and water is leaking into the headliner.

One thing I like about glass roofs is it's one less panel for clearcoat or paint to peel years down the road

As I detailed our '25 ES I got to closely compare to our '15 ES and one of the biggest differences I see (aside from the shape, etc) is that they changed the pano roof assembly.

On our '15, from the rear edge of the movable panel all the way to the top of the rear "windshield" is one piece of glass. On our '25, the last 6" or so leading up to the rear "windshield" is a plastic filler panel.

I wonder if the leak starts at the intersection of the glass and filler panel.

This is a lubricant oil stain from the panoramic roof tracks. Happened to me in 2024. Dealer could not remedy. I returned the car

Original poster that you cited here. I'm now convinced that these stains are grease from the pano roof mechanism at the factory. I suspect during assembly the headliner/sun shade comes into contact with the grease and hence the stains. The unique nature of the fabric distributes the grease over time so it appears more as a water stain. My original post mentioned success in removing with a cleaning that is no longer available, however, this is it's equivalent: https://lithiumautocare.com/products/hyper-cleanse. I would try spraying on a clean microfiber cloth and blot until stain is no longer visible. That was my fix. Good luck! (BTW, I don't trust ANY dealers' work)
