Default Confirmation on Exterior Roof

Okay so I am loving my car and it has so far been the best car I have owned. It is very quiet, rides like a dream, and obviously does not have any water leaks into the car and no leaks on the ground. For a CPO car, it is simply a joy to have.

All cars from all manufacturers have quirks, I am sure mine will have them as well. But my curiosity, concern got me thinking about the exterior lines and gaps the roof has to the frame. Since I do not know of anyone else locally to compare roofs to, I am asking here.

I did not pay too much attention to this matter when I purchased the car. I noticed when I got home, have had the car for a few days now, and washed it to look pretty. I have seen the service records for the car. It was all serviced at one dealership and never had any issues.

So the questions are, is the space between the frame and the roof on the Lexus LS460s overall vary? Are the gaps in the pictures attached normal? The left height difference (from top of roof to top of frame) gap is 15mm and the right side is 11mm. Is this something I should bring to the dealers attention or do I have nothing to worry about because it is one of the quirks of the car?

Thanks ahead of time.

I just looked at my car and it shows none of those irregular gaps. It looks like your car was twisted or torqued in some fashion.

Thanks for looking on your car. I thought the same but I don't see how that would have happened. No car accidents unreported. Everything else is just fine with the car.

Just don't know if its a quirk of this specific car... or not.

Look at the front windshield if it has been replaced. I believe they have to remove these roof rails to install a new one. Also, some 460 has rattle in the roof assembly that required the windshield to be removed and these rails refitted.

@hfahmy ~
I just checked all the glass on the car. Everything has a Lexus logo with numbers stamped in a corned of each glass except the windshield.

The windshield is some aftermarket label on it. So yes, more than likely the windshield was replaced once prior to me owning it.

First, this is not a big deal.

Only thing is to confirm that the Lexus dealer is allowed to CPO the car with changed Windshield? If such, again not a big deal.

If the whole thing is a little out of alignment because of a windshield replacement, that is fine. I understand that people use all sorts of glass companies to replace windshields. Not all glass companies do great work.

That being said, wouldn't the Lexus Service Department have noticed it and readjusted it preparing it to be sold as a CPO? Or was Service just rushing out on a Friday because Happy Hour was calling when the car rolled in? LOL

I think he is implying that the glass may have been replaced as a result of some type of damage (or at least thats what im gathering)

Personally, I would take it in and ask them about the glass, and those gaps and see what they tell you.

Call them and ask for your CPO checklist. They miss stuff all the time. If it is not in there ask them to put it in.

The problem is; if something goes bad around the windshield (leak, wind noise, etc.) and you take it back they will refuse to fix it under CPO because it was replaced. If it is noted in the CPO checklist then they certified it knowing it was replaced and you will be covered.

Also, CONFIRM that they are allowed to CPO with replaced windshield.

Edit: You can call Lexus Corp and ask the CPO question

Thanks!

The very first bullet item on the checklist is Exterior Appearance - Panel Alignment/fit. It was checked off meeting Lexus standards.
