I just purchased a 2024 ES 350 F Sport about three weeks ago. I haven’t been driving it much because I’m recovering from a spinal fusion. Yesterday I went to run some errands in it. It’s got the black 19” wheels on it. It was a very sunny day and when I was walking back from a store to get into it I noticed a lot of brake dust on the wheels - especially in the wheel barrels. This car hasn’t been driven in the rain since I brought it home. I may have 200 miles on this car. Is this an issue with these cars?

I don't notice inordinate amounts of brake dust on my FSport and that's after five years of ownership and a full brake job in between.

Maybe because your rims are black and other member's aren't ?? Point is, you have noticeable dust and if you want to reduce it, different pads should help. Akebono aftermarket pads put out significantly less dust. Do a search on the forum. Something to research before it's time to replace pads. Not certain if they have replacements for Fsport and your year though. Clean the rims and spray with a ceramic coating blend.

 

Not much off my 2021 ES 350 (non-sport). Not an issue but I drive gently, not much start stop driving and no hard stops. I guess driving style and traffic conditions can matter.

 

Maybe Lexus changed the brand of pads?

My "toy" is a 2021 C8 Corvette. I have black wheels on it. There is a handling option for tracking that car that I did not order because I had it on three of my past Corvettes and knew that I would never push it to the limits where I would need it on the street. I have no brake dust problems with those black wheels but I also take my cars and have them ceramic coated soon after I buy them. The handling package on those C8s is notorious for brake dust and owners usually change to a ceramic brake pad like Carbotech to eliminate the dust. I don't like the black wheels on my ES 350 so I am waiting to have the car - and wheels - ceramic coated until after I replace the black wheels. Hopefully that will take care of it.

 

No dust, no performance. More dust, more performance... unless your car can brake with magnets=no dust. =p

as to the comment of "sport brakes," unless something has changed since I had my ES, F Sport, Hybrid, and 350 all use identical brake hardware including pads.

only trd camry, trd avalon use bigger brakes and i think highlander is bigger even. been a while since i looked it all up.

 

At 200 miles I doubt you are looking at brake dust, unless you did some seriously spiritted driving in those 200 miles. My guess is to say the dust is from some other source.

 

My RC 350 generated some noticeable brake dust until I replaced the pads with Akebono ceramic brake pads. From that point on the brake dust accumulation on the wheels was reduced by about 75%. And the braking was better, too.

 

I was thinking the same thing but I have the graphite 19"wheels, not quite as dark but dark enough to pick up pad dust and I never see it.

 

Could it be that, at 200 miles, the new brake pads haven't been seated yet?

With aftermarket pads (I know these aren't aftermarket), when installed, you normally need to seat them properly or you will experience greater brake dust.

Yes they do!

I was out in my shop today so I checked. It's definitely brake dust!

 

Probably much more noticeable on black wheels.
