Default Rear Camera Detection Unavailable Error

This has happened to me 3 times now so I figured I'd ask the group... When leaving the gym in the morning around 8am, I put the car in reverse to back out of my parking spot. I get a warning saying "Rear Camera Detection Unavailable Remove the Dirt of Rear Camera". Which is weird because my car is clean and the image I see on the dash screen is as sharp as ever. This isn't a huge problem, but it makes no sense to me. It's only happened 3 times so far, but the car seems to have other minor weird Gremlins in it and the more posts I read on this forum the more I wonder about Lexus's firmware/software QC. Any thoughts on what could be causing this error message? Thanks in advance!

I don’t have an answer, but I can confirm that it has happened to me once, also with a clean camera. I was really puzzled but someone else reported it Last December so I wasn’t completely surprised.

Hmmm. I wasn't going to mention it but I'm getting an alarm and a pedestrian image when reversing out of my driveway. Doesn't occur frequently. There was nothing behind my car...Stopped, put it in drive, then reverse, and it goes away...Wonder if something's up...

I occasionally see the same issue, usually when I'm running late to work. My thinking is that sometimes I put the car in reverse to back out of the car before the camera is initialized from startup, and the car (computer) doesn't know the camera is there, yet. Maybe I'm just rationalizing. I've never tried putting it back in park and trying again, but I bet it wouldn't happen a second time. I'll try it.

It goes away pretty fast, and I've never had any real issue.

This happened to me once and then went away quickly. It happened on start up so there may be a connection there. My car was new and very clean.

Actually, my single occurrence of this particular message was also right at start up so you may be correct as to that connection.

I’ve been facing this problem intermittently since yesterday. But instead it is an error for park assist failure.
As usual, everything is clean.

How quickly did you put the car in gear after pushing the start button? I’m beginning to wonder if those of us that have seen this type of error are just putting the car in gear before we let the car finish booting up. There are more electronic assistants on this car than any car I have ever owned before and I’m wondering if it just needs an extra 5 or 10 seconds to load everything up before placing it in gear. Otherwise, it spits out a canned “clean sensor” response?

I wait for around 6-7 second after pushing the start button. The seat and steering comes back to their memory settings and as my car is parked on a slope, i wait for the parking brake to disengage completely.

I would think that would be fine. So much for that theory.

Did the dealership forget to remove the plastic?

It happened one time, just after I washed the car. Even though the lens was clear, giving it a second wipe restored the feature (but only after a restart.)

I have this issue too but it's much worse than other people seem to experience. It's like 50/50 of whether it's going to work.

What year of ES do you have? Is this a 2019 issue and fixed for the 2020's?

I have a 2019 ES300h and this has happened several times, all with a clean car. Another quirk in the electronics.
