debating between NX or ES. One of the things I’m wondering is if the ES rear seat can fold?

Rear seats do not fold on the ES. There is only a very small pass through in the middle section of the back seat.

Stabilizer bar to stiffen the ride and that's why Lexus says the seat cannot be folded down.

The only Lexus sedan with a fold down rear seat is the IS.

Nope, no fold down seats. There is a "V" shaped brace to improve stability and handling. My previous car was a 2011 Camry hybrid that didn't have fold down seats because the battery was in the trunk. In the 9 years I had that car it was never an issue so I'm just fine with it.

I traded my NX for the ES because I was unhappy with the NX, and I don't miss being able to fold down the seat.

As others have stated, no fold-down rear seats but candidly I don't miss it. I had an older Infiniti with fold down rear seats and somehow a valet defeated the internal lock and attempted to steal my laptop bag. Fortunately I had to enter my trunk before I left the restaurant and immediately noticed that my bag was missing. The entire valet staff 'played dumb' until the cops showed up and had me activate the "find my iPad" capability - which totally slipped my mind because I was so angry. And wouldn't you know it... mysteriously my bag showed up as if I'd left it in the restaurant.
