Default Rear seat latch broken

I know this is an old post but thought I would add my recent experience , Passenger side rear seat latch not working and as some have said the cable was detached inside , The reason is the plastic mechanism brakes . The cable is unlikely to go as its pretty heavy duty. So the simple fix is to replace this part (second hand possibly but my feeling is that the plastic ages and becomes brittle) So, lift the latch and gain access to a small rectangular cover plate in the recess. Using a small flat screwdriver take this out (best lever at side and lift the rear edge to avoid breaking) undo the 2 screws and lifting from the rear remove latch mechanism , when replacing, insert cable end first then cable outer secondly , If you're lucky the cable may have just become detached (unlikely though) For me I was able to reuse the broken one by drilling and then slotting (This needed to be slight interference fit) a new fixing position (I'm an aero engineer with some hand skills) Its working fine for now. Nice to be able to fold the seat for the 3 visits to the dump each year !
Hope this helps someone .
Cheers
Alan
