dash cam install
I have a UV protective film on my windshield and looking at installing a Lexus OEM dash cam.Does anyone know if camara is attached with double stick tape to the windshield. That may not work on UV film?
If you are asking if you can stick clear double sided tape specifically provided for dashcam attachment to windshields, on a windshield that has tint, then I say yes you can, with some caveats. I've done this on my Tesla with an accessory dash cam, and I had my doubts but so far it's been a year and it sticks perfectly. no pulling or separation of the underlying windshield tint. Now i can't speak specifically for what tape you are referring to but the tape I used came with my Viofo dash cam, it's a rigid double sided square sticker for attaching dash cams to windshields. of course too it would depend on the quality of the tint used on your windshield, including the adhesive and install and the weight of your dash cams. So YMMV.
I installed a Fitcamx 4K front only in my 2024 ES350. It replaces the existing plastic housing that surrounds the rearview mirror and plugs into existing wiring that is inside the housing. No tape involved. It was a lot cheaper than the Lexus camera and I think it looks more like it belongs there than the separate housing of the Lexus camera. I viewed the recording of the trip I took down the block and back right after I installed it and the picture looked good. I have ignored it ever since and mostly forget it is there.
If you want a rear camera or you want to record while the engine is not running, it will require some messy extra wiring and tearing into the interior trim. The front only version that records while the engine is running is an easy DIY install. You just have to fiddle with stuffing the new wiring back inside the housing and avoid breaking a couple fragile plastic tabs that have to be lined up just so when you click the housing together.

I put a higher capacity SD card in mine, but don't really know if it will ever make any difference compared to the card that is included with the camera.
