Default Lexus ES350 UL - Vs. - Genesis G80

I am pretty much decided that I'll will get either a 2025 Lexus ES350 UL or a 2025 Genesis G80 this Spring/Summer depending on availability.

Has anyone here done a comparison between these two Vehicles - Test driven both and decided on the ES350 ?
Price is not a concern. Just Vehicle Features, Handling, Ride, Comfort etc.

I can't Test Drive either currently as I'm out of the country for the winter.

I'm pretty sure the G80 is a newer more premium RWD platform compared to ES. Remember the ES is essentially an Avalon which itself is a slightly stretched Camry. Aside from the obviously different sheetmetal and interior designs, the bones/architecture is near identical aside from tuning and tweaks for the suspension. I went down the rabbit hole of looking at individual powertrain/electricals, BIW, BIW stampings, welds, etc. It's all identical.

So keep in mind with the G80 you're starting out with a more premium base.

However, I do not trust Hyundai/Kia/Genesis powertrains at all.

If leasing, I'd go G80.

If buying and plan to keep, i'd go ES.

Between ES hybrid and V6, hybrid hands down. But that's up to you.

Genesis G80 is no longer RWD - They are AWD with a RWD Bias. Genesis does have the Best Power-train Guarantee in the Industry at 10 years or 100,000 Miles. With that said, I have owned 3 Genesis Sedans and Currently Driving one that is 10 years old and no problems also have a G80 that is 6 years old. I pay Cash. --- I take it that you've never driven a 2025 G80 ?

nope. never had an interest.

I like the ES Hybrid powertrain in terms of gas stuff. 40MPG in a premium offering is good.

if i'm guzzling gas, i'm going BMW or Mercedes or Audi, not Hyundai/Genesis

I did the same debate when I bought my ES. I just had a greater sense of mechanical reliability and confidence in the Lexus. It appears justified as I’m now in my fifth year with the ES and nothing at all has needed to be repaired or replaced. Just perfectly smooth sailing. Expect to buy another new one as soon as we see what next Gen is all about.

The ES 350 UL may not be available later this summer if rumors are right about a refresh getting rid of the V6 powertrain.

However, I am getting the 300h UL soon. I want the current design compared to what may come. I originally wanted the 350 but then I test drove both 300h and 350. I ended up liking the 300h more. It did take me multiple test drives to finally conclude which one I wanted.

Has there been any word on that? I'm not sure if the chinese refresh is destined for the US. If it is, I couldn't see the ROI for the refresh lasting less than two years minimum. If so, at minimum the 8ES could be seen as a MY28, assuming one is even in the works. so you could be waiting a while--unless there's news i am missing.

IMHO most of the time those long warranties are just for marketing purposes. Some auto stores advertise lifetime guarantee on some parts., but What's the use in that if they fail so frequently? I'm not saying the Genesis are prone to fail; but it's definitely not as reliable as many other brands. The CR engine reliability rating on the G80 is not good. I have never owned a Genesis but have some friend who have reported various mechanical issues while under warranty.

How many miles? Perhaps you have been lucky so far. Maybe next time could be the charm.

Any brand could have a lemon during manufacturing (including Lexus). It's just that it's less probable for a Toyota/Lexus than a Genesis.

I saw a video online showing the 2026 Lexus Executive Sedan and it had a V6 engine or a hybrid with a four banger. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

I probably had a longer history with Lexus than yourself, and reliability was the reason I left Lexus in 2010.... I had owned a 99 Lexus GS300 and then a 2003 ES300. Both cars were flawless and I was committed to Lexus. I then bought a new 2007 Lexus GS350 and it was a flaming nightmare. Rattles, Recalls and problems like no other car I've ever owned. It wasn't just me, as everyone was complaining on these very forums.

It soured me so bad that I switched to Genesis Sedans in 2010. I had 3 of them and Love them all. Much better cars than the Lexus I owned. And really happy Owners. I have looked at and test drove the BMW, Audi, and Mercedes models, but I have avoided them like the Plague, after the problems my friends have had. No German Cars for me!

I'm glad to see that Lexus has gotten rid of the GS series. Maybe one reason that I intend to give the Lexus ES350 a chance. So, my confidence is with Genesis. But I will give Lexus another chance, and that is why I am back on these forums after 15 years........ In the end the G80 that I want is $20 Grand more than the ES350 UL - But that is not a big issue. I just want a Car that I'm happy with for 8-10 years. My current Genesis Sedan is a V8 with 429 HP and I've never had a problem with it. It is very quiet and comfortable. But I love the new technology in Cars, and that is the main reason I am looking.

My 2019 was back for a fuel pump recall and then haven't been back since 2019 for anything else. Not so sure about Hyundai products...

I do like some of the designs of the new Hyundai and Kia products. they are looking better and more fun. but yeah those powertrains, i do not trust them largely for their smaller or more fuel efficient cars which makes me doubt the bigger ones. basically their 4 cylinders. perhaps the 2024+ are good, but obviously we need 5+ years to really see.

if i'm going japanese brands, I will choose lexus or mazda. for german brands, probably BMW (though I really only like the new gasoline 2 series or 4 series).

i generally dislike hyundai (including all their sub brands), nissan & infiniti, newer hondas and acuras (early Hondas/Acuras in the 90s/early 00s were peak!!)

one exception for me for new hondas is new accord. i really like it.

You are very misinformed. Nissan and Infiniti are Japanese and part of Nissan Corp..... Hyndai and Genesis are from South Korea and completely different Car Brands. I owned 1 Nissan Maxima and it was 'Meh' --- I won't go there either anymore.
