Default Avoid Safelite for your windshield replacement

Do not use this company. They stink!!

Brand new 2023 ES windshield replacement.

1. Paint scratched above the windshield.
2, Some adhesive on the paint above the windshield as well.
3. Fingerprints all over.
4. New windshield dirty.
5. Interior left filthy with dirt and plastic bits on the dash and windshield.

I should have just used Lexus. This wouldn't have happened there.

Yes, you might have to pay for the windshield up front before Insurance will reimburse you but the job would have been right and the car cleaned before you picked it up.

Safelite will never get anywhere near any vehicle I own again.

Some members swear by Safelite and say they were completely satisfied. Others have complaints like you. I guess it's the luck of the draw who the installer is and how good a job they do. For a windshield I think I'd go with the dealer for all the radar cruise, auto wipers, pedestrian detection calculations and on and on. Probably be more expensive but you get what you pay for...

I've used Safelite for rock chip repair since it's an easy process with my insurance. But I've always gone with independent shops for windshields. Safelite's markup is very high with windshields. The "little guys" use higher quality windshields like Pilkington and charge less.

In the past I had the Ford dealer replace the windshield on my T-bird, they were removing the trim around the windshield by drilling out rivets and the drill slipped and they removed paint on the roof, it had to be repainted and blended.

In the past I also had Speedy glass replace a windshield on my Tesla. They scratched the paint around it while removing (the wire scratched it slightly) and they damaged the A-pillar inside trim. They paid to have the A-pillar trim replaced.

I think it just comes down to the installer, how careful are they.

I had one more windshield replacement on my F150 a few years ago but it went OK because it was at the body shop to have the rust at the edge repaired so I had no issues that time LOL.

Unfortunately its not just Safelite. It can and does happen with any company. It falls on whoever is performing the job. My wife's F150 needed a replacement and Safelite didn't seal the windshield properly so when it rained it rained inside the truck. When her Bronco Sport which came after the F150 and was only 3 months old needed a new windshield we had another company replace it. They scratched the pillars, the hood to the point the entire hood had to be repainted. We have used Safelite again when it needed yet another replacement and instead of having them come out to do the job we took it to them. I always say this to anyone getting a replacement. Take a lot of pictures before they even touch it.

I agree. I only used Safelite once, and was very disappointed. They ordered the wrong rear windshield for my 2014 Toyota Camry, TWICE. Turned out they had the part numbers for my generation and the next mixed up in their system. Last I checked, the Camry is the number one selling passenger car on the planet. How do you get that one wrong??? My daughter drove around for nearly a month with a Saran wrap rear windshield.

can you post pics of the paint scratch, adhesive, dirt etc? i see some faint smearing on the pic you posted but not sure if that's the worst of your problems?

when i got my 2nd CT (used) it had a terrible windshield install job i had to clean up myself. big overlap/spill over of the windshield adhesive. not the faint smidges i see in your pic that can be wiped off in all likelihood.

if your pic is the worst of your issues, i'd say that's a fantastic job all things considered. any actual scratches? pics?

The more important question is that is this a OEM Lexus glass (bottom right corner should say Lexus glass etc...), I guess not since it comes from Safelite. And how did they calibrate the camera, did they follow Lexus procedure, you were right, you should use Lexus, since Insurance will pay for it all...

Safelite uses oem glass if you tell them to. Some insurance companies actually require it.

Agreed. I had safelite replace our windshield on our 2022 Highlander Platinum with an OEM glass a week ago. All of the numbers matched on the bottom left and the glass said Toyota as well. Pre-collision sensor, HUD, rain sensor, and heated windshield all work as they did before. It really all falls on the installer. Our neighbor works for Safelite and unfortunately she was off for the day we were scheduled, but she set us up with the best tech of the day and informed them that the trainees should get nowhere near the car. She says she sees the trainees scratch cars constantly.
