BumpShox plate guard triggering front Camera / ES350 UL
Hey all,
I finally got my plates for my ES350 UL.
For years I successfully used a BumpShox plate guard for NYC parking. The top of this rubberized guard had to be sliced off because it was completely covering the front camera.
However, now when I decelerate to < 7mph, the camera is automatically turning on...I guess because the license plate guard is triggering it...I can live with this but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a similar license plate guard that will not trigger the front camera.
Please let me know.
Triggering the front camera at low speeds is a setting on your car, it's not the plate surround's fault. Read your owners manual to see how to disable it.
That is so bizarre though, because it never did that until I just had the plate guard installed. Maybe I somehow disabled it at around the same time...or likely one of the service techs did.
Thank you.

Hey, I just checked both the Owner's Manual and Navigation and Multimedia System Owner's Manual and can't find it.
Sorry to be a pain, but any idea where in the manuals this might be?
Right right, I just went down and figured that out.
Incidentally, this thing plays friggin DVDs.....and with better sound quality than my home audio setup.....and with heated/ventilated seats.....pretty crazy...
Our NX must have gotten "bumped" in a parking lot on a visit to NE PA recently and the forward sensors and grille was pushed in ever so little.
Still cost almost $900 in parts for a new grille assembly with sensors and R&I front bumper. There was no physically noticeable damage, but the system was all out-of-whack. Total came to $1100. Fortunately, our comprehensive is $0 deductible.
Being from FL, there is no front plate, but maybe that chunky rubber frame you have would have saved us the grief.
Ouch. That hurts to hear. I was so lucky with my last car in terms of not getting damage I'm nervous about this one...especially because I actually own this one. But at the end of the day, it's a car. I make some effort with bumper guards and dash cams and that's that.
