Default I didn’t realize wireless adapters….

are still useful even for a late model Lexus with an automatic Apple CarPlay connection. Coming from a 2021 ES 350 to a 2025 300h and thinking the wireless adapter would no longer be necessary, I left it with the trade in as a small “gift” to the new owner. I discovered today that in order to operate the dash cam (FITCAMX) and Apple CarPlay simultaneously, the adapter (or the iPhone) still needs to be plugged into a USB slot. Maybe everyone already knew this. I didn’t.

Yes, since those wireless adapters use WiFi direct as well. I stopped using the wireless adapter since I frequent routes that pass by airports and it always disconnects around those areas, that's my only gripe about the wireless adapter that I was using. Motorola MA1 otherwise is solid.

How long does it take to connect when you start the car?

Adding a wireless adapter to the mix won't solve anything. The limitation is with the phone. Most smartphones' (including all Apple iPhones) built-in Wi-Fi hardware supports only one Wi-Fi access point connection at a time. If you want access to multiple Wi-Fi access points, say wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless dash cam, you'll need to get an external Wi-Fi access point dongle that you plug into the iPhone's Lightning/USB port. The external dongle should be bundled with compatible software that adds multiple Wi-Fi access point support to the iPhone's Wi-Fi network stack.

You’re probably right, grp. I sure thought my dash cam in the 2021 350 was functioning even while I was connected to AppleCarPlay. I guess I was mistaken although the salesman today (the tech guy was off Saturday) said a wireless adapter plugged into a USB port should solve the problem.

The mutually exclusive WiFi connections to either connect the ACP/AA functions or
the Lexus Dash Cam should not be a problem unless you are trying to watch the live
camera while driving. If you want to record that trip through a Holiday Lights Street
or a street or track driving experience, you just press the Action button to start the
recording that will not be overwritten later. If you have seen or been involved in a
noteworthy traffic event then you connect up the WiFi and preview, download and
save each 2-minute segment before it gets overwritten. Download to a Police report
or just Facebook. Why do you wish to engage both? By the way, the instructions
specifically note that you cannot hook up an iPad tablet to the Dash Cam, only phones.
