The vehicle was still drivable so I took the vehicle to my local Chevy body shop to get an estimate to repair. Chevy said there was 11K damage. I called the insurance company the other driver provided me (State Farm). Apparently this insurer is well known to screw all claimants. After negotiations between Chevy and State Farm, State Farm only agreed to offer $2,700 reimbursement and this was using used and questionable manufacturer parts. I told Chevy to effect the repair only using Chevy parts and I would pick up the added coast. When I sold the vehicle a year later nobody was will to pay book value as the car was "damaged" in an accident. The best I could come up with $10,000 less than book value on a vehicle that was in excellent shape with 9,000 miles on it. Everyone that made an offer indicated they has looked up on Carfax the car was repaired and they were not willing to pay book. I haggled with the State Farm insurer about this and they refused to compensate me for any diminished value.
Why didn't you work with your insurance company and let them haggle with State Farm?

Exactly. The insurer of the policy holder who damaged your vehicle will always lowball you on diminished value. That why you file with your own insurance company. They can subrogate the claim with the other insurance company.

I am betting 35k to 50k depending on options. If you add even 10k to diminished value over the frame welding, that equals 45k to 60k. Well enough to purchase a new one with like options. The dealer replace the vehicle with new. If I was on a jury trial, that would be my position.
I think you're getting some errors in your valuation math. An accident damaged vehicle valuation plus the accident diminished value compensation is never going to exceed the purchase price of a new exact copy vehicle. At best, an accident damaged vehicle valuation plus the accident diminished value compensation will be equal to the used, never-been-in-an-accident vehicle's depreciated value.

You cannot claim diminished value from your insurance co but can turn repair process to your co but have to pay deductible and premiums will probably go up in my state.

State Farm is who I had to deal with and the easiest I have had to deal with over the years. Seamless process and never a question about diminished value. I used there recommend Caliber collision and 100% went with there estimate and anything hidden. They even paid $700 for recalibration because of bumper removal. I like you had always heard there negative reputation towards clients and claimants and was surprised.

In my state (GA) my insurance company gives me the biggest check for DV. The insurer of the at fault driver lowballs it.

I think every state is different as the insurance commissioner sets the guidelines.

State Farm are a bunch of criminals. You are the first person I ever heard say anything good about them. Do you work for them? The numerous problems with this insurer are widely known and have been reported by the media. They are leeches that feed off the meek. They are scammers. I would trust a ghetto used car dealer before I ever trusted anyone at State Farm. Yeech!

I told you I had always heard the same as you and even know of people that have been clients for over 20 years and first claim had a difficult time with them. I was expecting a difficult time with them and got a totally different experience. For me to reply to your remark do I work for them necessitates no reply.

There are too many anecdotal reports from friends and neighbors as well as national media reports that overwhelmingly paint out SF as one of the worst insurers to do business with. It has been shown their business model is to go after vehicle owners looking for low premiums, especially in states that require auto insurance on all registered vehicles, and then in addition contest all claims and to low ball repair estimates. This is how it their CEO was reported to have been paid millions of dollars in corporate bonuses as voted by their board of directors when their company was showing record profits when he took over after he implemented this plan. There was a 60 Minutes report broadcast a year or 2 ago about their shady business practices. You should go back and do your homework before you make outrageous claims about things you know little of.

Hmm...
Exactly what outrageous claims did alextv make?

Perhaps I missed something, but alextv only stated his one, and only one, State Farm insurance claim was the easiest he has had which was contrary to State Farm's negative reputation that he had heard about. He just stated the facts of his one State Farm auto insurance claim settlement and expressed his opinion on how the claim process compared to his previous claim processes with other insurance companies. Nothing more; nothing less; and nothing outrageous.

agree.

verocarguy I understand you had (and shared)a bad experience but that doesn’t give you license to make rude and personal commentary if someone else had a good experience and similarly shared it.

Please ratchet it down a few notches or exit this thread.
