Default Steering wheel squeak

Uugh, this is annoying. It just started not long ago. It happens intermittently but seems to be increasing in frequency.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I think it is the clock spring. Silicone spray would fix it.

Just blast it in there while turning the wheel, or do I need to take things apart for the spray to reach its target?
I haven't even looked back there to assess the setup.

I'd be weary of spraying anything in or around what could have implications towards airbag deployment... i'd take it to the dealer for diag and repair. clock springs are delicate.

Spray it first without removing the steering wheel.

Update:
Well this really surprised me. I was 100,000% certain the noise was coming from the back side of the actual steering wheel. But I sprayed the gizmo on the floor, behind the brake pedal, and to my astonishment, the noise instantly vanished. I'm just dumbfounded that my ears were so thoroughly tricked.

Another update for anyone who experiences this: Noise came right back, even after several sprays. Took it to the dealer, still under CPO warranty, and they replaced the steering column boot part# 45025D. Fingers crossed

How's it working for you? They lubricated my dust boot 3 months ago and I'm starting to hear a very mild squeak.

That one did it. He replaced the boot, and I think he said he lubed it up as well. Haven't heard a thing since.

Mine started doing it when the temps got dropped about 20 degrees. I'm going to see if I can hunt down the source.

Cold weather is most definitely the catalyst

That explains it. We just had a couple of 0 degree days and that's when it started. Now I'm wondering whether I should keep my appointment next week.

Well, squeaks and leaks only get worse if not addressed. It took me a long time to get it fixed because it would go away for a while so I'd think it wasn't a big deal. Until it came back, lol.
