I already have 2700 miles on my 2023 ES F-sport (I drive a lot).

Wondering, are you all sticking with the factory suggested mileage or changing sooner?

 

I don’t. When the car is new, the oil should be changed at 1000 miles, at 5000 and after every 5000 miles.

 

This is not 1975. There is no break-in oil used.

OP, just follow the owner's manual recommendations for your driving conditions. There's no need to over think this and throw money away.

 

True, it's not a different oil but it is still recommended to do that first oil change earlier than you would the others because even as careful and more precise as manufacturing is today, with better machining and tighter tolerances, there can still be small metal filings and bits remaining in the engine. Parts are fitting together and small particles can be shed in that as it runs, all of which will circulate throughout the engine and may scratch other surfaces over time. So by doing an initial change at around 1000 miles or so (some say 500-1500m depends on source) you will drain out those particles and debris, put in a new filter and thereby extend the life of your engine. After than then you can go on to the long interval recommended by the factory.

 

I never get my money’s worth out of these expensive fully synthetic oils because I’ll drive only maybe 2,500 miles in 6 months and a change is then required based on time. I abide by the manufacturer’s guidelines. Presumably they know best—-I guess…

 

Go by mfr rec if you're leasing and just plan to turn in the car after three years. Perhpas more often if you plan to keep it 100k miles or more. I change every 5 or 6k miles.

 

Where do you see them stating to change at 6mo's? It's 10k miles, or 12 months. I've never heard of anyone having issues following that schedule. Some have gone well into 100k+ miles on the last gen ES doing so.

i recall it being in the owner’s manual—-speaking from memory, though, on that. . However, service manager at two different Lexus dealerships said 6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first.

 

Of course they did. That's an easy revenue stream for them. Always trust your owner's manual over your service adviser.

Well, that is what the filter is for.

Some manufactures, not Toyota though, tell you to skip the filter replacement every other oil change. Filters have come a long way in the past 20 something years. Just like engine manufacturing tolerances. It's your money, so go ahead and waste it. You probably run premium gas, too.

 

I don’t run premium gas, and I never did. I have a lot of experience with these engines and oil, that’s what I do for living.


I know what the filter is for, but there is no way for these particles to just sit in the filter and not go through the paper and inside the engine during the first 10,000 miles.

 

I follow this exact same thing.

 

Irrespective of the passage of time?

 

I drive enough to hit the mileage way before the time interval is met.
