Why do you think that is? Like most things in life, you should consider the source for any advice you're being given. Ask yourself if the source has anything to gain by it. It should be "in your face" obvious that those people make easy money off of you by doing oil changes, unnecessarily. The owners manual, on the other hand, has advice coming from the manufacture. They've performed extensive testing to come to their conclusions. Wouldn't you think they have more to lose by telling you to wait until 10k mikes, or 12 months if it was harmful to your engine?
It's like when they show you that Lexus is the most reliable vehicle on the market, and then try and sell you an overpriced warranty.
Good thoughts but respectfully disagree.
1j Manufacturer may say 10,000 instead of 5,000 to attract purchasers with claims of less required maintenance.
2) My independent mechanic is old high school classmate (and then my client), who has managed our cars for over 50 years. Be assured, he is honorable and sincere. He certainly doesn’t need the business!
I think it’s an eternal debate and if one is more risk-averse he changes oil more often. Others choose differently.

In that case, it may have more to do with the saying, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks".
My car manufacturer says 10,000 miles My oil manufacturer says 10,000 miles. I'm going to stick with 10,000 miles. I've driven six cars over a million miles and never have had one engine problem changing it every 10,000 miles having said that do what you want.
You can argue changes every 5k are overkill but 25k changes? - cmon.
it’s science and there is a warranty with (*) small print, any issues they cover it, nothing to worry about. Most people do not even bother to do UOA of their oil, but they will argue one way or another
Our '23 ES300h, March 1 '23 delivery, has around 3800 miles now. If I don't hit 5k by the 6 month ownership date some time in September, (likely I won't) I will change the oil end of that month. Then, probably every 5k. If it's overkill, so be it. I want those "warm fuzzies" LS500Fan posted above.
I've researched this topic in the past and found virtually zero data that proves more or less frequent oil changes (within reason) make a practical difference in the life of an engine. Yeah there are the oil analyses that look for contaminates and degradation but still no solid proof that changing synthetic oil at 10k vs. 20k miles will make any noticeable difference in the first 15 years or 200k miles that you are likely to own it. I go with the 10k for peace of mind but don't worry at all if that runs up to 12k before getting to it.
I worked with a guy who owned a transmission repair shop and a 1990's Toyota pickup. He bought a new engine mainly for the fun of doing a replacement and decided he was not going to replace the (dinosaur) oil again until the engine started showing signs of heavy wear. He went another 5 years and 60k miles on that oil and never noticed a difference. He sold the truck and still had the engine.
