Just curious if we can change selections for driving mode when a car is in motion or it has to stop to switch between them?

 

No stopping required.

 

Like jollick said, no stopping required. This mode selector doesn't seem to be that much of a big deal. Just delays gear shifting if you want to "run through the gears" and have some fun in Sport mode. Otherwise it seems like a gimmick.

As others have said, it doesn't do much and for rapid acceleration it does nothing (I.e wide open throttle), it changes the shift points a little to make the car feel peppier or to save on economy.

In older Lexus vehicles there was an ECT PWR mode, that's really pretty much what sport mode is.

 

dunno it definitely feels to me like it accelerates better in sport mode vs eco mode, and not just based on when it shifts.

 

At wide open throttle all three modes are equal. All it does is change the shift points. The engines power is the engines power, all it does is adjust the responsiveness of the transmission.

 

However, in sport mode you can control the acceleration as to not spin the tires. I love it when in pole position at at stop light.

 

The Mode Selector in the ES300h Hybrid changes the Normal and Eco
voltage from 500v DC to 650v. Makes a noticeable difference in torque.
