Default Can't get E-mails or Text Messages

I have a new 2015 Es 350 (Great car!!). I have paired an iPhone 5s to the Nav system but have not been able to receive e-mails or Text messages on my screen. I have followed the directions but so far nothing transfers. The other iPhone features appear to be working fine. I have activated "send Notifications." Any suggestions with specific steps would be appreciated.

The iPhones are not compatible with the e-mail functions, so that's not going to work, as Apple doesn't support it. Your text messages should, though.

For texts, go into your phone Settings>Notifications>Messages and make sure "Allow Notifications" is active. Then in your Bluetooth settings, click on the "i" next to your car connection and make sure "Show Notifications" is active.

Note that with an iPhone, you will only get notifications of new messages that come in while the car is on and the connection is established. You won't, for example, be able to connect then go into view your messages and see the messages that are in your phone's history. Also, the iPhone does not support the functionality to reply to a text with a canned message. The only way to respond, while in the car, is either with your phone screen or using Siri.

Hopefully this helps and makes sense.

Thanks for the quick response! This is helpful, although I can't believe that the Apple and Toyota aren't in sync.

JDR - great explanation. I only took me a year to figure it out about Apple and Lexus functionality.

What sucks is that I cannot send a text response from the car's interface, I have to use the iphone.

Resurrecting this old thread. A few days ago my 2014 ES350 Began showing the responses to text messages as being available. I’ve never seen this before on my car, as described in the quoted post. Yes they seem to work too.

Nothing changed on the car, so I’m guessing a recent software update on my IPhone 6S allowed this to happen.

Anyone else?

Thumbs up You CAN send a text response

The medium for doing this is Siri.

1. Hold down the phone icon and siri should pop up.
2. Say 'send text to ' <contact>. It will ask what do you want to say.
3. Once finished, Siri will ask if you want to send text. say 'yes'.

Text is sent.
