I am trying to play MP3 files from CD-R but the Lexus system does not recognize them form the CD. It does play MP3 files from USB flash drive though... Any ideas ? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

 

In the manual it will tell you the bit rate and file structure that the car supports. I think the max bitrate is 320kbps and a max of 99 folders. Make sure your CD is in the proper parameters.

I went through the manual earlier but could not find any helpful info in there - bit rate for my MP3's does not exceed 320 and there are approximately 20 folders only on the CD.... Besides, I tried to a CD without folders at all on it – just the files…

 

What program did you use to burn the disc? Have you tried Windows Media Player? It always works great for me.

It has to be a music CD not a data CD. I had the same problem until I realized this. This also excludes using a DVD which means you are limited to how many songs can be added to the CD.

 

My ES plays data mp3 cds. The manual states this.

 

Save yourself the trouble and get a USB stick. That way you can add and delete songs as you please and it holds way more.

 

Good idea. Or get a used iPod on eBay or something.

 

Yeah, but a USB stick is $8, a used iPod is a great deal more. Plus if it's one with a hard drive it's prone to fail, and you have to use itunes to manage it. USB is super easy and cheap and unlikely to fail.

 

Sorry as I really meant a data DVD. It would be nice if we could use those as you could put a lot of songs on one. CDs just don't have that much space.

I was able to manage this issue: had to buy new pack of CD's which resolved the problem !

I do use USB sticks and they work as a charm but they are little too big which makes it little too hard to navigate through music folders. Having a CD with something you really like on it makes it easier...

I gave up storing my music collection on CD's a long time ago due to their limited capacity of 10 to 16 songs. I've been reading that CD players in cars are soon going the way of cassette players which replaced 8-track players.

I have my music collection stored on both USB flash memory and my Android phone but I am more likely to stream it from my phone these days. Navigating through the folders on flash memory is a PITA - not nearly as easy as accessing the albums and songs directly from a phone.

Put your music on your phone, put your phone in an easy to access holder or charging cradle, attach it to your car audio though aux-in or Bluetooth, stream your music directly from your phone and enjoy. Or store your music in and stream it from the "cloud" which is the direction I've been going.
