Hybrid Battery Warranty in CA for 2013 ES300H
Hello - I got the dreaded 'Check Hybrid System' signal and diagnosed twice with code PA080 for my 2013 ES300H -
first time, lexus dealer found 2 weak suspicious cells and just reset light as car was driving fine.
Second time, dealer is now recommending to replace hybrid battery and quoted ~$5.5K.
Unfortunately, it looks like I just passed the 8 year mfr warranty by 3 months (and just shy of 100K miles).
My question is whether the California CARB or PZEV extended warranty (10 year/150,000 miles) should apply in my case instead?
Does the ES300H qualify as PZEV car?

Dealer seemed pretty adamant that warranty expired already,
so wanted to see if anyone knows more about CA extended warranty for hybrid batteries.

Pole Position
I don't live in a CARB state, but it is my understanding that cars in those states have warranty coverage until 10 years or 150K miles, whichever comes first. I agree with your assessment. I am also shocked at the price quoted since I had heard hybrid batteries were getting more affordable and my sister-in-law's Camry battery was replaced about 8 years ago for $4700. I would have expected the battery today to be under $3K. So I don't think the dealer is being honest with you, but I also think they are gouging you on the price of a replacement battery. Do you have another dealer nearby? Sounds like its time to get a second opinion.

Thanks - Yeah will get a second opinion - original battery was replaced once under warranty 5 years ago already,
so even if I have it replaced again, I'm weary of another replacement another few years from now.

Unfortunately your car is not rated PZEV
PZEV refers to vehicles that have zero evaporation emissions, yet have some tailpipe emissions, which is why they are only partially zero emissions. The tailpipe emissions of a PZEV will meet or exceed the standards set for a SULEV, so you know that these are environmentally-friendly vehicles. These Lexus vehicles must also come with a 15-year or 150,000-mile warranty to meet this classification standard.

I bought my 300h from a Lexus dealer this year and I live in California. In California, it is 150,000 miles or 10 years whatever comes first for the battery or hybrid powertrain. That is what I was told and that is what I will hold them to.

it says: Refer to your vehicle, engine, or equipment’s owners manual for the specific warranty coverage

Interesting, I use 91 octane, do you use 87?
