Default 2013 Nav Map Update

Plan to purchase the 2013 Nav Map Update from Lexus for $169 for my 2010 ES. Will I be able to install it myself or is the dealer going to tell me I need to pay an hours labor for them to do it? If only the dealer can do, guess I'll pass. I'm not real handy.
Thanks!

Starting with the 2010 model year (HD nav system) map updates have to be done by the dealer. The $169 buys the flash drive that is used and the car is hooked up to a laptop in the service department to download the update. Unless prices have come down (unlikely) the total cost seems to run <$300. Look for service discounts/coupons from the dealership to save a few bucks.

The prices have not come down. I had this upgrade installed as part of my recent purchase of a 2010 ES350 and the Service Dept charge showed as $290 plus tax.

I wondered with competition from smart phones, portable units etc. if prices would come down. Guess not. The dealership where I bought one of my cars has a special of $25 off a service over $250 which would save a few bucks. Still kind of pricey though.

Thanks to all. Guess I'll just skip it. Not worth $300 to me.

Thanks to CL, I knew this upgrade cost $300, which is why I made sure it was part of my purchase price. I don't plan on doing any more upgrades unless roads in the areas I usually travel on are updated. I like the speed of the hard drive based Nav, but buying a new DVD, as I did with my 2005 RL, was much more cost effective.

Exactly why I wouldn't purchase a vehicle with a factory installed navi in it. My Garmin came with free lifetime map updates and I take it everywhere we travel. You can't take your car with you when on a walking tour of DC, Well, I guess you could but you'd look pretty silly! That's where the maps on the smartphones come in handy.

The GPS in the car is a lot more than simply directions, not to mention the screen size of a built in Nav.

SmartPhones are not just replacing in car nav units (OEM and aftermarket), but also standalone GPS devices like Garmin.
