Default Nav upgrade

I want to update the NAV version on my 2010 RX to the latest 12.1 version. I got an complete upgrade cost of $ 287.00 plus tax from my Lexus dealer. (169.00 plus 118.00 install)

Can anyone tell me if this is the going rate for the upgrade. It will be my first upgrade since buying the car over 3 years ago.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds about right, the authorization code is $169 and $118 sounds like one hour in labor.

It's a freaking raping if you ask me. I spoke to the tech who can do it. He said they actually have the map and everything, but the authorization key is in the $169 USB drive. They need that to do the transfer.

I agree that sounds about right. Some dealers are quoting more than that - Close to $300.

Look online for service specials or coupons from your dealer. Sometimes you can save 10%-20% if they have them.

It's your car and money and for you to decide what you get for what you spend. I have a 2010 that got one upgrade for free shortly after I got it. I've ignored the rest. It's only map upgrades that come out periodically as new ones are released. If a lot of the roads you drive on have just opened in the last year or two, it may prove to be of value to you. If the roads you drive on are already showing on your map then ....

Well, I'll find out how much the update will set me back tomorrow when I bring the 450h in for minor service. That's if my SA lets me, LOL! She won't if the changes aren't substantial. I didn't update the nav on my old 330. Back then the DVD alone was $300. Fortunately the price has dropped over the years. The 450h hasn't seen an update since I bought it almost 3 years ago. Figure why not, I have a few Lexus points I can use to make it almost free to me. If not, at least the service will be covered.

4482,

Jim, Cruiter, is absolutely correct, however I live in rural Iowa and rarely do my local road changes show up in a Lexus navigation update and those roads I drive routinely are not a concern. It's the roads I travel on vacation and travel to other states and cities I want to be the latest in the navigation device.

I paid $210 for 12.1. I also noticed that now when I push the voice command I have the option to turn off voice prompts.

Call around if you have other dealers in the area or driving distance, $199.00 usb/cd installed seems to be the going discount rate at some Lexus dealers.

LexBob2,

I did as you suggested and went to my dealers web site. Bingo, I found a "special offer" on the main page for a $50.00 VISA prepaid card for just stopping in at my dealers. I then went to the service department page and found a 10% off coupon for any service work. Today I paid a visit to my dealer and received all as promised. No pressure, no nothing. I'm signed up to get my NAV upgrade next week. The VISA card is to be mailed to me within 10 days. They even emailed me a receipt that the card would be coming.

Because of your suggestion I've saved over $ 60.00 on the update !

Thank you !

Wow maybe I need to find a new dealer. I wish my dealer would pay me just stopping by! The only specials I ever see are free "inspections" of the brakes, tires, fluids etc. Or 10% of detailing.

Default Plug the USB stick in, go into your NAV screen settings & hit the update maps button

Save the dealer charge.

Doesn't work that way. The dealer has to do it with his computer connected to Corporates main frame. They figured out how to make money.
