The dreaded passenger window tab problem
Well it was a good run but after 6 years and 43,000 miles the window tab broke on the passenger window and now the window is off track on my 2007 ES 350. From everything I have read it’s going to be a fairly expensive repair as the window will need to be replaced also. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with Lexus covering at least some of the repair cost with the car out of warranty.
I know there is a TSIB on this but, the car needs to be 48 months or 50,000 miles for it to be covered. I didn't know if I reached out to Lexus for some relief on this if they would at least cover some of the cost.
I really have been very happy with this car and really have not had any problems with it at all. It is just paying $800.00 to $900.00 dollars for a known defect seem a bit steep. Thanks for any help.

Sorry i have nothing to offer but can you tell us if t there were any symptoms prior to breakage? My 07 still has a year of extended warranty and I want to be on the lookout for this if possible.

Had same pb 2 years ago 51k
Had the same pb about two years ago...Window began to make a popping noise prior to the window tabs breaking....window popping addressed in a Tech Service bulletin...My 07 was out of 50k 4 year range...Lexus wanted $660 to replace the glass and LEXUS Corp was not interested in offering any help..I explained that a recall should be made as it was a safety hazard....I had a private glass shop do it for $220 dollars...The auto pinch protector does not automatically reset so it will have to be done manually...I wrote about all of this 2 years ago and all of this info is available by doing a search...If the glass shop cannot reset the pinch protector, there is a procedure to override the pinch protector when the window is traveling in the up position...Hope this helps. Also, FYI the window tabs cannot be replaced or repaired as they are built into the glass.....ROLL TIDE

Happen to me recently on the passenger front window. I took the door panel away to see the problem and the front plastic tab has broken. Looking at the way the tab is done, i've tried to duplicate the broken tab with some thick aluminium sheet that i have, drill a hole where the screw is, work perfectly, the new aluminium tab is very sturdy. That fix will be completed when i have time to glue or silicone glue the window to the new tab firmly.
BTW, the fix is very easy when you can see the plastic tab configuration. The problem is the material used, flimsy plastic instead of metal or aluminium support.

Thanks. That's really the important thing here.
If you can't get an OEM window at an affordable price, this is the best solution.
The cheap replacement glass doesn't appear to have redesigned clips and they are plastic anyway, so you may find yourself in the same situation again.
To me, Quality is creating a part and a solution that meets the needs and requirements of my customer. As far as I can tell this does all of that. It's affordable, let's you keep your OE glass, and is very easy to install.
