Had my 2012 ES350 for service, 30K miles. Had brake fluid done and oil change.
They recommend this:
- steering fluid change
- replace serpentine belt, cracking

WTF, I asked about serpentine belt at 30K, they said its a wear item. I declined the repair.. steering fluid change, are you kidding me.

Looks like these dealers are getting desperate to get $.

Wow, you must have put some hard miles on your Lexus if they want to replace those items at 30k miles...just kidding but if I were you I'd steer clear of that particular dealer and/or talk with the service manager to see what the real deal is with the service department.

wow you got to be kidding me
the PS fluid is Transmisision fluid needs to last more than 30k

um yeah the drive belt is wear and tear but at 30k for it to be cracking i would call Lexus up and see about them doing it for good faith due to maybe a defective belt

Dealer is Cherry Hill Lexus. I asked about belt to be fixed under warranty, they said it's slightly cracked and still OK but recommend replacing some time. I said its unacceptable in 2 year 30k to have to replace the belt, and they told me it's a wear item and under some driving conditions it can crack, yeah right, easy highway miles. Not sure I can call corporate yet because they put it as 'attention' item, meaning it's ok but should be replaced in future.
But power steering fluid is total crap, it's not even in the manual, it's us ally replaced at like 100k miles when it gives you troubles, total BS.

honestly me i would call and ask to speak with the service department Director or Manager
let him know how you feel let him also know that if they think they should tell you it needs to be replaced that early and if they say it doesn't need to that you will call lexus and complain

call lexus customer care up ask them if its something that if the dealer wants to replace it at 30k if its something they would investigate and pay for due to possible material defect highway miles 30k no way not yet

i just had my PS flushed out at the dealer when it hit 60k just because i want to keep up on maintenance and its what made me feel comfortable

I agree that a lot of these dealer "recommended" services are bogus but they are nothing new and Lexus dealers are not immune to pushing them. You did the right thing in declining them but it's probably nothing to get too concerned about.

come to mind here for a second a few months back in the summer a friend of my fathers told me that when his wife leased a RX when she took it in for a 5000 miles service they tried to sell here like over 500 dollars worth of service even trying to say she needed new whiper blades thats how crooked some of these places our

even though i have trouble with the body shop at JM lexus they still do treat me good
the service department is great
last time i had it in for a oil changed i insisted on having it checked just to see if anything was wrong just for piece of mind the mechanic told the service advisor why did you have me wast time inspecting this car its perfect not a thing wrong lol

so some places this shows are just honest and good to deal with some are not
