Default Broke My Mirror

So while I was going through the car and changing out bulbs, I got to the first mirror and it was giving me hell. I got the mirror itself off (which took some SEROIUS pulling......I thought I was going to break it) and took out the screws. The housing was HELL to get apart. Seemed like it was "stuck" together. I was thinking that maybe it was held together by clips or something of the sorts, so I gave it a little tug, and CRASH! The lens fell out the bottom, the backing hit the floor, it was a disaster! After some further inspection, it looks as though I was not the first person to work on the mirror. The cover of the light assembly was super glued on, and I imagine that was what was holding the mirror back and front together. I got the light assembly out, and re-glued the cover on it, changed out the bulb, and put the housing back together. it was a little challenge to get it to line up, and get that broke-daddy light assembly all to line up. Then came getting the mirror to "snap" back on to the backing. I put the top clips in first, as they slide in, and then tried to snap the bottoms in after that. I was really having to push, and from my previous experience, I was trying to be gentle and not break anything else. I grabbed a flat head screw driver and was trying to hold the back plate while applying pressure to the mirror......then SNAP, cracked the effing mirror in half. It didn't break, but cracked the length of the glass.

Wonder if the Camry mirror would work..........wonder what Lexus wants for one.........

Called a local glass shop, and they quoted me for a cheap piece of crap that was not auto tint and not heated.......I asked if they had a factory replacement, they said contact the dealership.......I can't wait.

I did some looking, the Lexus mirror glass is in the neighborhood of 300, the Camry is 150. Any ideas if these are interchangeable?

Definitely not interchangeable, the Camry and ES have completely different mirror shapes/designs.

After reading this, I must say that I am quite surprised anyone actually broke their mirror after the bulb switch. I will admit its a p.i.t.a. to put it back on and I know I pushed hard enough that I thought it would break... but it stood up extremely well to my abuse

I didn't pop the mirror glass off. With a friend I just pulled the mirror out a bit where the screws were and was able to get a long thin screwdriver to unscrew and screw the screws back in.
Pulling the mirrors off made me uncomfortable but most do it that way.

The 2007 mirror was larger, the size was reduced in 2008. Not sure if the glass is the same from 2009 to 2010 since they added the signal mirrors, the shape of the mirror changed a little.

Well I got the mirror in and added some bulbs in the lights. The new mirror went in smooth as silk. I got these bulbs from V-LED's and they were CRAZY long....

So I went back at it with the Dremmel. I shaved some of the wall of the light assembly, and actually shaved a little of the end of the bulb off.after taking about 1/16 of an inch combined, it was still a really snug fit, but it did fit, and they are bright as hell. Kinda hard to tell from the pic, but it is a HUGE improvement.

I bought the same VLED bulbs and also had to Dremel.Shaved the bulb ends and light assembly too.
I later read a better way without using a Dremmel.
Someone posted just heat the light assembly back and stretch it out a bit.A much better and easier way to go.
VLEDs 4 LED flanks were without the heat sink on my last couple of Lexus vehicles.Fit perfectly without any alteration.Too bad VLEDs went to the new bulb style.
Worth the hassle because the LEDs do look great.

Thinking of ordering another pair to try one in the trunk. The trunk light sucks, and I not looking for crazy lighting, but just a little more umph.
