Default Daylight Saving Time

My '08 ES350's clock didn't automatically spring forward this weekend. Is there a setting I missed or is there no automatic feature for DST?

I'm sure the clock has to be manually changed. It's not like the clock is linked to the internet to synchronize times.

Also think manually changed, but on another point the U.S. changed the time that DSL normally occurs. For instance, it used to coincide with Mexico, we have ours at the beginning of April, but last year the U.S. switched the time to this past Sunday, so that messes a lot of things up.

Yep, manually changed. Hey the digital clock is the same clock I think my mom and dad had on their 1970's Buick...ha ha!

I think it is disappointing that the clock does not set itself. The GPS system, and the time zone selection feature, everything is there, but the LS, of course, has it. I cannot afford another $40K for that feature, so I have to set the clock manually, what an effort.

Incase anyone hasn't experienced it yet, you have to change the daylight savings option to "on" for the navigation arrival time to be correct. Go to menu, settings, time zone, and press "on" for daylight savings.

Are you saying that the LS is capable of automatically adjusting for DST and/or time zone? Not that it can't be done...but typically such a feature would not be implemented unless there was an immediate (and affordable) way to update it if say, our government decides to again change when DST begins and ends.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but even GPS by itself is not capable of telling you the exact time in any given time zone; if it could, then there would be no need for a "time zone" setting in the nav menu.

What--does the LS automatically switch over to displaying metric units if you drive across the border into Canada as well?

My 2005 Acura TL automatically adjusted for DST, although last year's rule change tripped it up.

Just as with Microsoft Windows, or any radio controlled clock, once you set the local time zone and Daylight time preference (on or off) the system in the LS will adjust from GMT to your local time zone. There is no reason the ES could not also do this, but I was told there is less processing power available in the ES than the LS.

My other car is a CTS and does it automatically by receiving the RDS signal from a radio station that provides the time. Just as they can display the name of the station or song and artist, they can provide the time in the data stream that will update the vehicle's clock. It is an option that can be disabled. On Saturday evening I changed the clock manually in preparation for the change, but the radio station changed it back. The next morning it was correct because the radio station provided the time and it updated to the correct time. I'm surprised the ES doesn't offer this.

Is it the new CTS? If it is, then does it ride? Is it as comfy, quiet and smooth as ES? I kinda regret that I didn't wait for the new CTS.

As for ES not offering such option, by what I know Asian countries don't have daylight saving time, meaning they don't ever have to change their clocks an hour back and forth. If they had such thing going on, I'm sure Lexus would have taken such option into account.

No, it's an 05 but the new ones are beautiful. It will definitely be included in the next round of test drives when we're ready to trade in the current one.

I looked at the new CTS' before I bought my ES350, but it didn't have bluetooth!!!! I had to move up the STS to get bluetooth. I had to have bluetooth since I don't want to drive on the cell....but if you don't want bluetooth, the CTS is a great car! Since it was the Motor Trend Car of the Year though there are not alot of supply and don't expect a deal.

I testdrove the previous gen CTS before I got ES350, and I didn't like how the car felt really really really big. It was kind of uncomfortable to drive. Also, it's really surprising that CTS doesn't have bluetooth while it has OnStar system.

I'm aware of that...however, not even a Windows PC can automatically adjust for different time zones (i.e., your PC isn't smart enough to know if you've moved to a different time zone); GPS units can't either since GPS satellites do not keep local time based on time zone. Also--unless Lexus is willing to give you software updates for free--it does not cost anything to update DST calculation on a PC if someone decides to change DST rules again; Voix's experience w/ his TL is a good example of why many models do not have an auto-DST feature.

AccElan01--yes it is possible for a clock to update for current location and DST based on RDS...but that assumes that the RDS signal being carried on whatever radio station you're tuned into is up-to-date; I've tuned to RDS stations where the time was not correct for whatever time zone I was in...or would take some time to update...or would be off by 5 minutes or more. Heck--there was this one station whose RDS data had the clock off by an hour...apparently because someone forgot to adjust for DST.
