I have the UL package, and on the window sticker, it clearly states I have the HID with AFS headlights. But I'm missing the button to the lower right of the steering which which turns AFS off. The Quick Guide shows one on pages 3 and 25, but I'm missing it in my car. While I should have AFS, I really don't know if I do since I haven't driven much at night yet. Franly, if I had the button, I don't know if I would turn it off anyway.

Anyone else know for sure they have AFS, but are missing this button?

 

I have the AFS option on my Premium car, and it works great, almost anticipating corners. Like yourself, I poured through the manual, and saw the button that you can use to shut it off. However, it isn't there, either below the dash, in the glovebox, nowhere! Guess it will be on all the time!

 

I know for sure I have the AFS headlights - have seen them in action at night. While the manual and the Quick Guide has the button appear to be on the dash, it is actually UNDER the dash below the steering wheel. You'll have to get outside of the car and get on your knees to look under the cover below the steering wheel. The button for resetting the tire pressure monitor will be there, too. (There's another button similarly located beneath the glove box for something else I can't think of right now.)

Yep. They sure are there. Man, they are completely hidden, away from where they were on the dash in the owners manual. Probably a last minute design thing, and someone thinking - I might add correctly so - "What do we need to clutter up the dash with buttons some people may never use". "We should hide these so that if people want to use them, they can" .

I'm fine with this. At least I know the buttons are there if I want them.

 

If you look closely at the images of the button(s) in both manuals, it seems like they attempted to sort of "ghost" them - or make them semi-transparent. Guess it's their way to try and show they are "behind" the dash cover below the steering wheel - as they would appear if you are sitting in the driver's seat.

Oh, and that other, similarly-placed button below the glove box I mentioned previously is for the second setting of the tire pressure monitoring system - for a second set of tires.

 

I think Lexus has hidden these types of buttons consciously... I believe even our 2004 RX 330 has a similar set of "hidden" buttons to enable/disable not-frequently-used options. I doubt this was a last minute Lexus design decision. I agree it's a smart place to put these buttons.

 

I agree. Most drivers would not want to disable these controls since it would take away from the vehicles safety.....besides, when you turn off the engine and then restart it these controls are automatically set to enabled.
