Question Cleaning Throttle Boby

Good day,

I’ve cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor on my Ford truck recently. Watched a couple of YouTube’s to get the gist of it, not that hard. With that said I was wanting to do the same on my 2014 Lexus ES 350 with 89,000 miles. However I am not finding hardly any videos on the 6th Gen. throttle body cleaning procedure. So my question is are there any pitfalls or “I gotchas” that I should be aware of? I am new to this forum and will continue to search for perhaps a guide.

Appreciate your time,

Regards,

Kevin S.

kbstall, If you use a top tier gasoline you don't need to clean the throttle body. The top tier gas has higher detergent additives than the no name brands. It's also recommended in the owners manual! I've been driving for over 50 years and always used Shell gas and I never had to clean carbs or injectors or throttle bodies.

What a throttle body has to do with a type of fuel?!! If anything, it matters what engine filter you use and your location. If there is too much oil (and eventually gunk) in the throttle body, you should check the PCV valve.

I've cleaned my TB a few different times. Tried to run a lot down there to clean some of the Intake Valves and Ports also. Its easy if you have someone in the Drivers seat on the Gas pedal to keep the engine from choking out while spraying. I stay away from the MAF and spray the wires lightly with Electronics cleaner.

I also have had the Toyota Dealer do a upper intake cleaning service. Its a good thing to do. I notice how much cleaner the car runs and idles, after I do it. I also run Chevron Techron Fuel additive every month or two in the Tank. Lots here think you should not do anything to your car but put gas in and change the oil and filter.

To answer your question, nothing much different on the ES than most others cars to do this.
