You should be able to upgrade your instrument panel to the 97 - 2001 tachometer. These tachometers tend to be more reliable.

Is it just the backlights? If so, there's a way to replace them. Run a search, you should be able to find the thread. If the pointers are going, that's a different issue.

I think Ghetto-Pimp was talking about the backlighting of his instrument panel. He needs the socket bases. I've never heard of a case where someone's instrument panel has burnt out socket bases; I would tend to think it's the bulbs that get shot.

At any rate, either a junkyard or Ebay is a good start in finding the replacement parts for the instrument panel.

As far as upgrading the instrument panel of the 1st-gen ES to that of the 2nd-gen ('97-'01), I don't believe it's possible because the electrical configuration is different between them, and the needles light up electronically on the 2nd-gen ES, which seems to be more reliable and long-lasting than the LED needles of the 1st-gen ES.

The clusters are identical to the sc clusters electronically. anything that can be done to the SC can be done to the ES.

there are some internal pics here , as well as bulb replacement sizes and numbers.
