Mystery ECT Broken Wire
Popped the hood to check oil level, and noticed this single broken wire. Don’t think it was from a critter. I have always thought heat would destroy these cars; the flexible tubing has been falling apart for years, and the plastic surround is cracking as well. Thankfully the connector didn’t break when disconnected, and I had continuity between the connector and the bare wire.
Soldered an extension wire piece in the middle of the broken one, some shrink wrap, some flexible tubing not in the end photo, and hopefully good to go. Odd the CEL didn’t light up. I was just in here a couple of weeks ago attending to a P0305 coil, and didn’t notice the broken wire then.
Temp gauge wire?
Hello,
Yes, it is a wire that goes to your temperature gauge. The CEL didn't light up since its only function is to show the temperature on your instrument cluster, and there are a few more temperature sensors for the ECU.
Here is a post that shows a repair procedure for the connector itself, just in case. It also has a document with all the Part Numbers for each connector housing in the car.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
