Question Trunk swap and remote start

Hello all,

First I would like to swap out my trunk lid, will a 1997 ES300 lid fit a 1999 ES300? The body styles appear identical, just want to know before I purchase.

Remote start install. Has anyone worked with the remote start kit "Bulldog"? Looking for tips and pointers on installation.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Trunk lids are the same. Can't comment on a remote start system except to say I dislike them, too much intrusive wiring I've seen many cars disabled because of the hack job wiring.

If you do get a remote start just make sure you can still start the car with a key even if the security bypass malfunctions/breaks so it wont leave you stranded.

Do a lot of after market remote starts have issues? I was planning on getting a nice alarm with remote start but might just stick with the alarm.

Go with Compustar. Installed with My ES330 works like a charm. Can start the car with normal remote, OEM fob works. Have to use the remote start fob when can is running.

I recommend Compustar, too. I had one installed on my GX. It had a 2 mile range, plus I had the app and could start the car with that. Also, with the security system and app, I was notified if the car was opened without using the system key fob. I had to drop off the GX for an oil change or something at the dealership and got a loaner. All of a sudden my phone starts alarming and I was freaking out not knowing what it was. (I thought my phone had gone berserk.) Then I looked at my phone and the app came up, alarming that the car had been opened and the security system was alarming. Very cool feature.

I installed and have been using a remote starter for like 5 years now in my 01 ES. They are just a pain in the butt to install in these old cars, there is no e-z wiring harness, you have to tap into a ton of wires, but if you have the service manuals with wiring diagrams (ideal) or an install guide with location/color of each wire (useful) and you will need to program whatever solution they have for the chip key/bypass. But once set up its been reliable. All connections soldered or use Posi-lock/Posi-taps and you won't have problems later. I use mine constantly. The 1 mile range is nice if you get the 2-way. *edit* Should've mentioned the brand, I have a Viper which is one of a bunch of different brands made by Directed Electronics, it has worked great.

On my wifes 2016.5 CX-5 I used a Fortin with a wiring harness adapter, just plug it in and program, much less work!
