Default Any "common problems" threads ?

Is this car that reliable that this forum doesn't have a "common problems" thread?

I just got a es300h and trying to get ahead of common problems.

any common issues I should be concerned with with my 2013 es300h ?

thanks guys

The ES is pretty darn dependable. It has been very rare for "problem" threads to be started on this board, and, on those rare occasions when there is a thread about an isolated problem, it is also rare for more than a couple of people to post saying that they have had the same problem.

I have driven my 14 es300h for 62,000 miles. Zero problems so far other than doing recommended maintenance and getting first set of tires two weeks ago. Still averaging 35 mpg.

I did have one problem that was fixed under warranty. The Ventilated seat not blowing air properly. I have attached the TSB which effects all of 2013 models and some 14 models.

This car is solid. At 90k, the only unexpected repair was for a $30-50? oil filter gasket.

I have a 2014 ES/UL with 55K miles and no issues. One recall for the DCC/PCS and one for the Gateway Computer replacement (battery drain), but nothing out of my pocket. I've enjoyed the car greatly and one reason I switched was due to reliability since I plan to keep the car 10+ years.

Had to have the entire sunroof assembly replaced for a know reason. Took almost 2 months (but my dealer gave me a Lexus SUV to use for that time).
Absolutely tomb quiet inside now :-)

I had a similar problem with the sunroof rattling on my 2014. The Lexus dealer didn't replace it, but there was an extensive repair done to it that took 3 days. I have driven around 3k miles since the repair and it seems to be ok so far.

Only problem on my wife's 300h was the ventilated seats mentioned above. Better, but still not comparable to my MDX ventilated seats.

Since I don't drive the car often, a common problem I have is getting out and not shutting off the motor, since the electric motor is quiet.

Also, in comparison to other forums I've been on (e.g., G35Driver, Nissan, Volvo), this one appears to have significantly less activity overall.

It might be too early for "problem" threads to pop up frequently on this very reliable car. Personally, I have an ES350 with 76k miles driven 50% highway and 50% very heavy stop and go traffic as a daily commuter. No problems or issues - only oil changes, tire rotations and air/cabin filter changes. No transmission fluid changes yet.

You will probably only see "annoying" problem threads like ventilated seats not working, etc.

Yup, that was it. Was your car still under warranty? Mine was (whew...) would have been big $ otherwise.

PAB12, a quick question. My 2014 is almost off warranty. I almost never open the sunroof and have never had any noise issues. Were your noise issues occurring only when open or when opened and closed? If only during opened then I'll have to try and simulate that over the next few days. Thanks in advance.

Nope, I heard sound over my left shoulder when hitting bumps. I first thought it was something bouncing around in the trunk, but that wasn't it. Then I thought it was a loose seat in the back seat, but that wasn't it either. Then I wrapped the grab handle about the driver's rear door in a towel, but nope not that either. I finally thought it might be loose trim pieces in the back seat...

Then I talked to a friend who had had a mid 2000s LS. He described the sound perfectly (behind his left shoulder but kind of from above).
That did it. Took it to the dealer then next day, described the problem, and they IMMEDIATELY took the car.

The dealer identified it as a design flaw in the sunroof rails of 2013-2016 ESs (didn't say anything about LSs, but I didn't see the need to ask).

Trust me, if you take the car to the dealer and say you hear rattling from the sunroof (tell them the sound comes from behind and above your left shoulder, or wherever you believe it's coming from, as long it's from above) they will perform the repair (which requires the entire sunroof to be removed and replaced, a very BIG job...)

It would have been a ~$3000 repair if I didn't have it done under warranty.

Don't wait, bring it in immediately. There were a couple of other ESs waiting for the same repair when I picked mine up.

^^Um, no.

Trust me, don't bring the car to the dealer and say you hear something that doesn't exist. If they take apart your sunroof and reassemble it, you may now have an issue you didn't have prior.
