The damage occurred just off camera, but you can see some of the interior glass splatter. I took the footage & modified it some -I zoomed in on the area I'm talking about in this link:

The rock didn't go through, but it was enough of an impact that it threw glass inside the cab.

I do have the pano roof. So I guess OEM is the only choice, no matter what then. The local dealership have me a quote of $1500 to do the job. Crazy!!

It sounds like the trucking company is going to cover it. I went & talked to them yesterday. They were pretty impressed with the dash cam footage. They said they'll get back to me tomorrow (today) for sure w/ details.

Here's a close up of the main damaged impact area. It spidered though. And it's growing. Almost all the way up the windshield now.

 

Thanks to to all on this thread. As the originator wanted to inform that my cost is also near $1500. With $1k deductible, I will be out $500. Good news is Lexus provides a loaner car for the days out.

I have used Pilkington on my previous Lexus LS, and no issues. They are an OEM manufacturer for both Toyota and Lexus.

I personally think it's a waste to pay for "dealer" glass unless you absolutely have to. I know in the case of my LS the dealer wanted something like $1,600 vs $200 for the Pilkington.

Also, my wife's car was broken into and they shattered the driver's glass, dealer wanted $1,200, my insurance company wouldn't pay it but had their mobile glass install it for "free" but actual cost was like $200. The glass was quality and made in the USA (not Chinese)

 

Can you give info on what dash cam you have and if you like it? I wish they had one with 4 cameras: front sides and rear all in one

 

What kind of dash cam do you have? Guess it only takes once to be glad you have one. I have been considering one.

 

The dash cam is a 70MAI. I actually got it on Indiegogo. I believe it is actually made by Xiaomi. This dash cam has been in production for a long time overseas, in China. But this is the first English version of the unit. So far I'm pretty happy with it. I can "live view" the footage on my phone too, quality is decently good but not super great. It records on a continuous loop on a 32GB micro SD card. Paid less than $50 for it.

My 17 ES windshield as replaced last month by an independent shop with an lexus OEM windshield. Cost $1230 total and I paid $50 deductible.
Never had the windshield calibrated afterward and the rain sensor or radar still works perfertly.
