Failed ECU/ECM
The ECM on my 1995 ES300 went bad last week. I've taken it to my local mechanic. Although he has been able to diagnose that ECM and Solenoid in the transmission to have gone bad, he is not able to find a replacement ECM. The main reason he says is he needs to find an ECM that has the paired key along with it. I've searched to the internet for the part. I stumbled on to couple of websites that say I can just plug their ECU in and drive the car without need for anything else to do such as reprogramming. This has confused me. I'm not sure if the websites' claim are true. I desperately need this part as it is the only car I have.
Can someone please guide me. Is what the websites' say is true? If not, where can I hope to get an ECM as per my mechanic's requirement. Another option could be to buy a computer and reprogram it but then I don't know where to get that done.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
Regards
There are some companies that rebuild them, so you would get your same ECM back and no programming would be needed. I am not sure what they actually do to rebuild them though.
